
The 2018 Asia Pacific Masters Games, the inaugural edition of the Asia Pacific Masters Games, was held in the Malaysian state of Penang from 7 to 15 September 2018. Organised by the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), it is the first ever Masters Games for the Asia-Pacific region.

The 2018 IIHF U20 Challenge Cup of Asia was an international men's under-20 ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournament took place between 12 and 17 December 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and was the fourth edition held since its formation in 2012 under the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia series of tournaments. To be eligible as a "junior", a player cannot be born earlier than 1998. Malaysia won the tournament after winning all five of their round-robin games and finishing first in the standings. Kyrgyzstan finished in second place and the United Arab Emirates finished third.

The 2018 Sukma Games, officially known as the 19th Sukma Games was a multi-sport event held in Perak from 11 to 22 September 2018. This was Perak's second time to host the Sukma Games and its first time since 1994.

Malaysia participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. At the last edition in Incheon, the country placed 14 in the medals tally, with 5 gold medals from squash, sailing, and karate. In 2018 edition, Malaysia was represented by 447 athletes and 140 officials at the Games. Abdul Azim Mohamad Zabidi, the Appeals Committee chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia was the chief of the delegation.

Malaysia participated at the 2018 Asian Para Games which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 6 to 13 October 2018.

The Kuala Lumpur Major was a Dota 2 tournament, as part of the 2018–2019 Dota Pro Circuit season. The event was held from 9–18 November 2018 hosted at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018.

Malaysia competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6 October to 18 October 2018. The chef-de-mission of the contingent was former two-time Olympian archer Cheng Chu Sian. Malaysia won its first gold medal at an Olympic event, having previously won silver and bronze medals.

Malaysia competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018. It was the country's first appearance at the Winter Olympics. Malaysia's team consisted of five people: two athletes, two officials and one chef de mission.

The 2018 Malaysian motorcycle Grand Prix was the eighteenth round of the 2018 MotoGP season. It was held at the Sepang International Circuit in Sepang on 4 November 2018.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Lucas Matthysse, billed as Fight of Champions, was a boxing match for the WBA (Regular) welterweight championship. The event took place on July 15, 2018 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Pacquiao won the fight by 7th-round TKO and Matthysse announced his retirement shortly thereafter.
