Iran participated in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China on 12–27 November 2010.

The 2010 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, also known as the IV Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, was an international indoor athletics event took place in Tehran, Iran, between 24 and 26 February. This was the second edition to be hosted in the country as the first championships was also held at the Aftab Enghelab Complex in Tehran. A total of 23 nations sent athletes to compete at the championships, which featured 26 track and field events.

Iran participated in the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China on 13–19 December 2010. 156 athletes represented Iran in the first Asian Para Games. Shahabeddin Bassamtabar was the flag bearer for Iran in the opening ceremony.

The 2010 Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship took place in Tehran from July 23 – August 1. It acts as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2011 Men's Junior World Handball Championship.

Iran participated at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore.

Iran participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Four athletes represented Iran in the 2010 Olympics, three in alpine skiing and one in cross-country skiing. Marjan Kalhor was the first woman to represent Iran at the Winter Olympics.

The 2nd Islamic Solidarity Games were going to be an international sporting event scheduled to be held in Iran on 9–25 April 2010. The Games were cancelled following a dispute between the host country and Saudi Arabia.

Iran participated in the 2010 Winter Paralympics, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Only one athlete represented Iran in the 2010 Paralympics in alpine skiing.

The 2010 Asian Men's Volleyball Cup was the 2nd edition of the AVC Cup for Men, played by top eight teams of the 2009 Asian Championship. It was held at Ghadir Arena, Urmia, Iran from 1 to 7 August 2010.

The 2010 Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championship was held in Azadi Volleyball Hall, Tehran, Iran from 13 to 21 May 2010.
