Great Britain topped the medal table with their greatest gold medal haul in European Championships history. Adam Gemili won the nation's 100th gold medal in the history of the championships.

Great Britain competed at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, in Nanjing, China from 16 August to 28 August 2014. On 9 July 2014, the British Olympic Association named a team of 33 athletes to compete at the Games.

The first 2014 Invictus Games were held on 10–14 September 2014. Around 300 competitors from 13 countries which have fought alongside the United Kingdom in recent military campaigns participated. These included the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand and Afghanistan. Competitive events were held at many of the venues used during the 2012 Olympics, including the Copper Box and the Lee Valley Athletics Centre. The Games were broadcast by the BBC.

The Men's Allam British Open 2014 is the men's edition of the 2014 British Open Squash Championships, which is a PSA World Series event Platinum. The event took place at the Sports Arena in Hull in England from 12 May to 20 May. Grégory Gaultier won his second British Open trophy, beating Nick Matthew in the final.

The Sport Relief special, also referred to as "Beckham in Peckham", is a 10 minute edition of the BBC sitcom, Only Fools and Horses, broadcast as part of the Sport Relief 2014 appeal on 21 March 2014. Actors David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst reprised their roles as Del Boy and Rodney in the sketch written by Jim Sullivan and Dan Sullivan; the script included previously unused material written by their father John Sullivan, who created and wrote every episode of the series. David Beckham guest starred, Beckham having got in touch with Jim Sullivan.

The 2014 Friends Life Tour of Britain was an eight-stage men's professional road cycling race. It was the eleventh running of the 2004 incarnation of the Tour of Britain and the 75th British tour in total. The race started on 7 September in Liverpool, finishing on 14 September in London. The race was part of the 2014 UCI Europe Tour, and was categorised by the UCI as a 2.HC race, for the first time.

Great Britain, represented by the British Olympic Association (BOA), competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from 7 to 23 February 2014. The British team was made up of athletes from the whole United Kingdom including Northern Ireland, whose athletes may have elected to hold Irish citizenship, allowing them to represent either Great Britain or Ireland. Additionally some British overseas territories competed separately from Britain in Olympic competition. A total of 56 athletes competed in 11 sports making it the biggest contingent that Great Britain had sent to a Winter Olympic Games for twenty-six years.
