The 96th edition of the Milano–Torino cycling classic was held on 1 October 2015. It was run over a distance of 186 km, starting near Milan in San Giuliano Milanese and ending near Turin on the Colle di Superga. The route will pass through the plains of Vigevano and Lomellina, then reaching the hills near Casale di Monferrato. The final climb to the Superga Hill will have a mean slope of 9%, with maximal slope of 14% and will likely be the decisive point. The race will be first of the three races of the Trittico d'Autunno, the others being the Gran Piemonte and the "monument classic" Giro di Lombardia. The race was won by Diego Rosa (Astana) ahead of Rafał Majka (Tinkoff–Saxo) and Fabio Aru (Astana). After the early breakaway had been caught, Astana rode hard on the first ascent of the Superga to eliminate a large number of riders. Rosa then attacked with 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) remaining on the final ascent. Although various riders, including Majka, Wout Poels and Thibaut Pinot (FDJ), attempted to chase him down, Rosa stayed away to take his first win of the season by sixteen seconds.

The 3,481.8-kilometre (2,163.5 mi) race included 21 stages, beginning in San Lorenzo al Mare on 9 May and concluding in Milan on 31 May. It was the fifteenth race of the 2015 UCI World Tour. The Giro was won by Alberto Contador (Tinkoff–Saxo), with Fabio Aru (Astana) second and Aru's teammate Mikel Landa third.

The race returned in 2015 after three years, because the 2013 and 2014 editions were not raced due to economical and organizational problems. It was held on 2 October, one day after the Milano–Torino and two days before Il Lombardia, as part of the Trittico di Autunno. It covered a distance of 185 kilometres (115 mi), starting in San Francesco al Campo and ending in Cirié. Riders with the characteristics of sprinter or puncheur were the favourites for the victory. The race was won by Jan Bakelants, who attacked in the final 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) and held off the bunch to take a solo victory. Matteo Trentin (Etixx–Quick-Step) won the bunch sprint for second place ahead of Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani–CSF).

The race was organised by RCS Sport, who also organise the Giro d'Italia.

It was also the first of the 2015 cycling monuments, the five most important one-day races of the year. The defending champion was Alexander Kristoff, who won the previous year's race in a sprint.
