The event was first held as a CART series race from 1997 to 2000, initially on Memorial Day weekend. From 2001 to 2003, it was held as an Indy Racing League event. After a hiatus of over a decade, the race returned in 2017 as part of the unified IndyCar Series.

In 1998 it was played at Efteling Golf Park, Loon op Zand, Netherlands, in 1999 at Prise d'Eau Golf Club, Tilburg, Netherlands and in 2000 and 2001 at Crayestein Golf Club, Dordrecht, Netherlands. In 2002 it was played at Flanders Nippon Golf, Hasselt, Limburg, Belgium while in 2003 it moved to Golf de Pierpont, Les Bons Villers, Hainaut, Belgium. The next European Senior Tour event played in the Netherlands was the Van Lanschot Senior Open in 2010. In 2003 the total prize money was €130,000 with the winner receiving €19,500.
WThe Nordic Junior Race Walking Championships was an annual international racewalking competition between under-20 athletes from the Nordic countries organised by Nordic Athletics. Established in 1966 as a one-day event between Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, it became a contest between Finland, Norway and Sweden only in 1999, then had its final edition in 2003, after which point the junior racewalking events were hosted within the main Nordic Race Walking Championships.
