Abrolhos Archipelago

The Abrolhos Archipelago are a group of 5 small islands with coral reefs off the southern coast of Bahia state in the northeast of Brazil, between 17º25’—18º09’ S and 38º33’—39º05’ W. Caravelas is the nearest town. Their name comes from the Portuguese: abrolho, a rock awash or submerged sandbank that is a danger to ships. There is a conspicuous shipwreck in the group.

It is 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) in length, covers 1.335 hectares, and shaped like a fifteen-pointed star. Ilha dos Frades has preserved vegetation of the Atlantic Forest, including native Brazil wood. The island is protected as part of the Environmental Protection Area of the Bay of All Saints.

The Itapagipe Peninsula is a peninsula located in the city of Salvador, capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia. The peninsula comprises Administrative Region III, including the neighborhoods of Alagados, Boa Viagem beach, Bonfim, Monte Serrat, Ribeira, Uruguai, Mares, Roma, Caminho de Areia, Vila Ruy Barbosa, and Massaranduba, among others. Rua Fernandes Viêira and Avenida Afrânio Peixoto roughly form a boundary between the peninsula and the city of Salvador. The Church of Our Lady of Penha, one of the earliest structures, occupies the northern tip of the peninsula.

It is located about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the city of Salvador, Bahia and covers 146 square kilometres (56 sq mi). There are two municipalities on the island: Vera Cruz and Itaparica (13%). Itaparica has 40 kilometres (25 mi) of beaches and exuberant tropical vegetation. Itaparica is the largest maritime island in Brazil.

The Sobradinho Reservoir is a large reservoir located in Sobradinho, north of the Brazilian state of Bahia. The reservoir measures approximately 320 km (200 mi) long, 4,214 km2 (1,627 sq mi) in surface area, and a storage capacity of 34.1 km3 (8.2 cu mi) at its nominal elevation of 392.5 m (1,287.7 ft), making it the 15th largest reservoir in the world. The lake encloses the waters of the São Francisco River, one of the largest and most important rivers in Brazil.
