Caroline Island, a crescent-shaped atoll located some 1,500 km (930 mi) south of the Hawaiian Islands in the central Pacific, consists of 39 small islets surrounding a shallow central lagoon. The islets, which only rise a few meters above sea level, share a common geologic origin and consist of sand deposits and limestone rock set atop a coral reef.

This is a list of island countries. An island is a landmass that is surrounded by water. Many island countries are spread over an archipelago, as is the case with the Federated States of Micronesia and Indonesia. Others consist of a single island, such as Barbados, or part of an island, such as the Dominican Republic. Australia is a a continent, although it is sometimes referred to as an island, as it has no land borders. Two island countries, Northern Cyprus and Taiwan, are not universally recognized as politically independent, but have de facto control over their island territories. This is a list of islands of Cuba. Cuba consists of over 4,000 islands and cays surrounding the country's main island, many of which make up archipelagos. Off the south coast are two main archipelagos, Jardines de la Reina and the Canarreos Archipelago. The Sabana-Camagüey Archipelago runs along the northern coast and contains roughly 2,517 cays and islands. The Colorados Archipelago is located off the north-western coast.
