The term Adobe Flash animation refers to both the file format and the medium in which the animation is produced. Adobe Flash animation has enjoyed mainstream popularity since the mid-2000s, with many Adobe Flash-animated television series, television commercials, and award-winning online shorts being produced since then.

The series premiered on November 17, 2017 on YouTube. The first season was marketed with the theme "Better Together".

Super Mario Bros. Z is a British Flash-animated fan crossover action-adventure web series created and produced by Mark Haynes, which debuted on Newgrounds on April 22, 2006. Using video game sprites to illustrate, the series's story and style is inspired by Dragon Ball Z and features characters from the Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog franchises. The series follows five heroes: Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Shadow and Yoshi, as they race to find the seven Chaos Emeralds before Metallix, a robot bent on becoming the most powerful being in the universe. The original series ran for eight episodes before being canceled in 2009, with the incomplete ninth episode being released in 2012.
