Its tone is influenced by Raphael's Madonna of the Baldacchino and Fra Bartolomeo's works.

Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine or Mystic Betrothal of Saint Catherine is a 1567-1570 oil on panel painting by Giovan Battista Moroni, produced for the side-altar of Catherine of Alexandria in the church of San Bartolomeo, parish church of Almenno San Bartolomeo, where it still hangs. It is signed at lower right IO:BAP.MORONUS.P. The church had been begun in 1520 through the will of Giorgio Rota, but work lapsed until restarting in 1562. The painting draws on the composition of Moretti's 1539 Rovelli Altarpiece.

Art historians argue that the work may be attributed to the period in which Parmigianino was painting his first works in the church of San Giovanni Evangelista, as also emerges from a recent restoration, which has shown that its technique is near-identical to that of Parmigianino - "no underdrawing, pigment use, descriptive speed, drafting of final shadows, using fingers and brush-ends as tools".

Belonging to the sacra conversazione genre, it is now in the sacristy of the church of San Giobbe in Venice, whilst a autograph copy of the work is now in the National Gallery, London. The London work includes a scroll below Mary inscribed + 1504/Andrea Cordelle/Agi dissipulus/iouanis Bellini/pinxit and the number 24, variously interpreted as the artist's age or as his personal symbol using the signus tabellanolis, a technique used by 16th century notaries the better to identify works' and documents' authenticity.

It was commissioned in the mid-1470s in Bruges for the Old St. John's Hospital (Sint-Janshospitaal) during the building of a new apse. It is signed and dated 1479 on the original frame – its date of installation – and is today at the hospital in the Memling museum.
