WBloc Party are an English rock band, composed of Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Justin Harris and Louise Bartle. Former members Matt Tong and Gordon Moakes left the band in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Their brand of music, whilst rooted in rock, retains elements of other genres such as electronica and house music. The band was formed at the 1999 Reading Festival by Okereke and Lissack. They went through a variety of names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. Moakes joined the band after answering an advert in NME magazine, while Tong was picked via an audition. Bloc Party got their break by giving BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand's lead singer, Alex Kapranos, a copy of their demo "She's Hearing Voices".

The group's final line-up consisted of lead vocalist Jake Stone, backing vocalist Stavros Yiannoukas, bassist Jamie Cibej and drummer James Hauptmann. The band released three studio albums Problems, Head of the Hawk and Company and well as a greatest hits album in 2014.

The band's name is based on a story Ebert wrote in his youth, about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe. The group's first show was played July 18, 2007, at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, California. The group released their second full-length album, Here, on May 29, 2012, and third album, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, on July 23, 2013. With a lineup consisting of singer/guitarist Sophie Hopes, lead guitarist Matt Tanner, bassist Nick Vasey, and drummer Ethan Darnell, the group released two EPs: All We Didn't Know in 2013 and Figurine in 2015. Rising to prominence with their single "I Don't Think You Like Me" from the latter EP, Tired Lion won the J Award for Unearthed Artist of 2015. They performed at Splendour in the Grass as a result, and continued to tour extensively, including at the Glastonbury Festival 2016. Their debut album, Dumb Days, was released in September 2017, produced by Violent Soho's Luke Boerdam.
