Maryhill is an area of the City of Glasgow in Scotland. Maryhill is a former burgh. Maryhill stretches over 7 miles (11 km) along Maryhill Road. The Maryhill district has several sub-districts, such as Acre, Botany, Dawsholm Park, Firhill, Gairbraid, Gilshochill, Maryhill Park, North Kelvinside, Queen's Cross, St George's Cross, Cadder, Summerston, Woodside and Wyndford.

Broomhill Football Club is a Scottish football team originating in the Broomhill area of Glasgow, although since 2016 home matches have been played at Recreation Park in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. The club was formed in 2014 as a senior team associated with Broomhill Sports Club, under the name BSC Glasgow, and was re-named Broomhill FC prior to the start of the 2021–22 season. They were elected to the Scottish Lowland Football League, in the fifth tier of the Scottish football league system, for the 2014–15 season.

Cadder is a neighbourhood in the north of Glasgow, Scotland. Within the Canal ward under Glasgow City Council, historically more closely associated with the Lambhill and Maryhill districts, it is located 5 kilometres (3 mi) north of Glasgow city centre, sited on the route of the Forth and Clyde Canal. Occupying a footprint which is around 800 metres (870 yd) east to west but only 200 metres (220 yd) north to south on a fairly steep incline, the neighbourhood was built in the early 1950s and borders Glasgow Western Necropolis & Crematorium, Lambhill Cemetery and St. Kentigern's RC Cemetery, as well as Possil Marsh at its eastern side.

Dawsholm Park is a public park in Glasgow, Scotland, adjoining the Kelvindale, Maryhill and Temple areas of the city, and southern parts of the town of Bearsden. It is situated on the River Kelvin, north of the River Clyde. The park covers an area of 33 ha, and consists mostly of woodland, with some grass and wildflower meadows in the southeast area of the park.

Firhill Stadium is a football and former rugby union, rugby league and greyhound racing stadium located in the Maryhill area of Glasgow, Scotland. Since 1909 the stadium has been the home of Partick Thistle. The stadium is commonly referred to as simply Firhill, although from September 2017 - September 2020 it was also known as The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill for sponsorship reasons. For the 2021–22 Scottish League One season, the stadium will also be the home of Queen's Park, while the club awaits the completion of redevelopment works at Lesser Hampden.

The Forth and Clyde Canal is a canal opened in 1790, crossing central Scotland; it provided a route for the seagoing vessels of the day between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde at the narrowest part of the Scottish Lowlands. This allowed navigation from Edinburgh on the east coast to the port of Glasgow on the west coast. The canal is 35 miles (56 km) long and it runs from the River Carron at Grangemouth to the River Clyde at Bowling, and had an important basin at Port Dundas in Glasgow.

The Forth and Clyde canal pathway runs between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde and is a 106-kilometre-long (66 mi) footpath and cycleway that runs across Scotland, between Bowling, west of Glasgow, and Lochrin Basin in Edinburgh. The path runs on the towpaths of the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals and is entirely off road. The path is well maintained and its surface is generally good, although there are some stretches particularly between Falkirk and the outskirts of Edinburgh where wet weather leads to muddy conditions unsuitable for road intended bicycles. It is well used by walkers and cyclists, and designated as one of Scotland's Great Trails by NatureScot. It also forms part of the National Cycle Network, being designated as Route 754. Sustrans advises that the path is best followed from the Clyde to the Forth because the prevailing wind is from the south west. Much of the path is also suitable for experienced horseriders, although in some places low bridges, narrow aqueducts and gates may restrict access for horses.

Gilshochill is located to the north west of Maryhill in the City of Glasgow, Scotland. It is the district of which the location of the Forth and Clyde Canal meets the Port Dundas branch of the canal. It is immediately to the north of the location of the Maryhill basin and Maryhill lock. Gilshochill is an elevated residential area. Its highest point sits about 150 metres above sea level. Gilshochill is spread over the area around Sandbank Street, bordering the areas of Cadder and Summerston. It falls under the G20 area postal code. Gilshochill railway station is in the area.

The station is located on the Maryhill Line, 31⁄4 miles (5 km) north west of Glasgow Queen Street. Services are provided by Abellio ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. When the station was opened by British Rail in December 1993 it was named Lambhill, being renamed Gilshochill on 24 May 1998 under Railtrack.

The River Kelvin is a tributary of the River Clyde in northern and northeastern Glasgow, Scotland. It rises on the moor south east of the village of Banton, east of Kilsyth. At almost 22 miles (35 km) long, it initially flows south to Dullatur Bog where it falls into a man made trench and takes a ninety degree turn flowing west through Strathkelvin and along the northern boundary of the bog parallel with the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Maryhill is one of the 23 wards of Glasgow City Council. It was created in 2007 as Maryhill/Kelvin, and in that election it returned four council members, using the single transferable vote system. The same boundaries were used in 2012. For the 2017 Glasgow City Council election, the boundaries were changed, the ward substantially decreased in territory and population, was renamed Maryhill and returned three members.

The Maryhill Line is a suburban railway line linking central Glasgow and Anniesland via Maryhill in Scotland. It is part of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport network. The line between Glasgow and Maryhill forms a part of the West Highland Line and was reopened to stopping passenger services in 1993. The line was reopened by British Rail and Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive. Local services over the route had previously ended in the early 1960s, though it remained open thereafter for Fort William/Mallaig & Oban trains and freight traffic. In 2005 it was extended to Anniesland via a new station at Kelvindale in the north west of the city.

It is located on the Maryhill Line, 4+3⁄4 miles (7.6 km) northwest of Glasgow Queen Street, a short distance east of Maryhill Viaduct and Maryhill Park Junction. It has two side platforms. Services are provided by Abellio ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

Ann McKechin is a former British Labour Party politician and was Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow Maryhill from 2001 until 2005 and Glasgow North from 2005 to 2015. She was a junior minister under Gordon Brown before becoming a member of Shadow Cabinet of Ed Miliband. She lost her seat to the Scottish National Party in the landslide at the 2015 general election.

Partick Thistle Football Club are a professional football club from Glasgow, Scotland. Despite their name, the club are based at Firhill Stadium in the Maryhill area of the city, and have not played in Partick since 1908. The club have been members of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) since its formation in 2013. In the 2020–21 season, Thistle won Scottish League One, the third tier of the SPFL structure, and returned to the Scottish Championship, having been relegated from there in 2019–20.

Queen's Cross Church is a former Church of Scotland parish church in Glasgow, Scotland. It is the only church designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh to have been built; hence, it is also known as The Mackintosh Church.

Ruchill is a district in the city of Glasgow. It lies within the Canal Ward of North Glasgow in the Ruchill Community Council area between the Maryhill and Possilpark areas of the city. It has traditionally been characterised by a high degree of deprivation and social problems. However, from the late 1990s much of the poorer-quality housing stock has been cleared to be replaced by newly built housing association and owner-occupied homes, improving much of the area's character.

Ruchill Church Hall, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, was built as a mission for the Free Church of Scotland and completed in 1899. It is located at 15/17 Shakespeare Street, a side road off Maryhill Road, Glasgow, Scotland, close to the bridge which takes Ruchill Street across the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Ruchill area, and near a shopping centre on the main road. The adjacent church closer to the canal was constructed later, designed by a different architect.

Ruchill Hospital was an infectious diseases hospital in the Ruchill area of Glasgow, Scotland. The hospital was closed in 1998 and was sold to Scottish Enterprise in July 1999. It was managed by NHS Greater Glasgow.

William Lowson Mitchell-Thomson, 1st Baron Selsdon, known as Sir William Mitchell-Thomson, 2nd Baronet, from 1918 to 1932, was a Scottish politician who served as British Postmaster-General from 1924 till 1929.

Still Game is a Scottish sitcom, produced by The Comedy Unit with BBC Scotland. It was created by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, who played the lead characters, Jack Jarvis, Esq and Victor McDade, two Glaswegian pensioners. The characters first appeared in the pair's previous TV sketch show Chewin' the Fat, which aired in Scotland from January 1999 until December 2005.

Stockingfield Junction (NS571689) is a canal junction which lies in Lambhill, in Glasgow, Scotland. It opened in 1777, and closed in 1963, followed by restoration and a re-opening in 2001-2002. At first a terminus it formed the junction for the Port Dundas branch off the Forth and Clyde Canal main line from 1777.

Summerston is a residential area of Glasgow, Scotland. With most of the housing constructed in the 1970s, it is situated in the far north of the city and is sometimes considered to be part of the larger Maryhill district, but has a different postcode; other nearby neighbourhoods are Gilshochill to the south and Cadder to the south-east. With open farmland to the north-east, Summerston is separated from the southern parts of the town of Bearsden to the north-west by the River Kelvin and a golf course.

Taggart is a Scottish detective fiction television programme created by Glenn Chandler, who wrote many of the episodes, and made by STV Studios for the ITV network. It originally ran as the miniseries "Killer" from 6 until 20 September 1983, before a full series was commissioned that ran from 2 July 1985 until 7 November 2010. The series revolved around a group of detectives initially in the Maryhill CID of Strathclyde Police, though various storylines were set in other parts of Greater Glasgow and in other areas of Scotland. The team operated out of the fictional John Street police station. Mark McManus, who played the title character Jim Taggart, died in 1994. However, the series continued under the same name.

Woodside is a district in the Scottish city of Glasgow and also forms some of the most southern part of the much larger district of Maryhill. It is situated north of the River Clyde, between the River Kelvin and the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Wyndford is an area of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Located 2 miles (3 km) northwest of the city centre in Maryhill, Wyndford is bounded by Maryhill Road to the north and the River Kelvin to the south. The area comprises council housing that is typical of that which was built throughout Glasgow in the 1960s and 1970s. The houses are now either privately owned or mainly run by Cube housing association. The community is represented by the Wyndford Tenants Union.
