Beyond was a Hong Kong rock band formed in 1983. The band became prominent in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Mainland China, and Overseas Chinese communities. The band is widely considered as the most successful and influential Cantopop band from Hong Kong. In 1993, leader Wong Ka Kui, died at the age of 31 after an accident during the filming of a show at Fuji Television in Tokyo. Beyond continued to perform and record after Wong Ka Kui's death. In 2005, the remaining members Paul Wong, Wong Ka Keung and Yip Sai Wing decided to pursue their own solo careers, and Beyond officially disbanded.

Grasshopper is a Hong Kong Cantopop male group formed in 1985. The band consists of Edmond Chi-Wai So (Chinese:蘇志威), Calvin Yat-Chi Choy (Chinese:蔡一智) and Remus Yat-Kit Choy (Chinese:蔡一傑). Calvin and Remus are brothers and grew up with neighbour Edmond in a poor neighbourhood in Hong Kong. It was Remus who was interested in dancing and singing at the beginning. His mother was his dancing teacher. In order to enter a talent competition, the 16-year-old Remus enlisted Calvin and Edmond as his back-up dancers. The act did not make it far in the competition but began to perform as a trio. They later named themselves Grasshopper inspired by their agility and favourite cocktail.

Their music was generally targeted at young teens, but in 2004 they began to attract a wider audience by venturing into different styles of music. In February 2008 the duo temporarily separated after the Edison Chen photo scandal involving Gillian Chung. After two years the group finally reunited in 2010.
