William Shatner is a Canadian actor, author, producer, director, screenwriter, and singer. In his seven decades of acting, Shatner became a cultural icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise. He has written a series of books chronicling his experiences playing Captain Kirk, being a part of Star Trek, and life after Star Trek. He has also co-written several novels set in the Star Trek universe, and a series of science fiction novels called TekWar, that were adapted for television.

The following is a list of awards and nominations received by William Shatner. Shatner earned Saturn Award nominations for his performances in the Star Trek films. He earned five Best Actor nominations: the first for Kingdom of the Spiders, the four other for the first four Star Trek films. He won the award for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and also earned The Life Career Award in 1980. On the negative side, Shatner was nominated for three Golden Raspberry Awards in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, including Worst Screenplay and won two for Worst Actor & Worst Director.

Shatner and Nimoy portrayed the characters James T. Kirk and Spock respectively in the 1960s Star Trek television series, the 1970s animated television series, and their film sequels. They talk about differences they had with Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, and about the strained relationships between Shatner and some of the other cast members. It was in this film that Nimoy first publicly revealed that he had struggled with alcoholism while he was acting in the original television series. Shatner talks about the death of his third wife, Nerine Kidd, who accidentally drowned in a pool in 1999 after suffering from alcoholism.
