
An azmari is an instrumentalist whose job is to entertain others by playing masenqo, especially found in entertainment venues, traditional hotels in Ethiopian community. It is comparable to the European bard or the West African griot. Azmari, who may be either male or female, are skilled at singing extemporized verses, accompanying themselves on either a masenqo or krar (lyre). Azmaris often perform in drinking establishments called tejbeit, which specialize in the serving of tej (mead). The Azmari introduced the popular Tizita ballad form.

Endegna, previously known as Yegna, are an Ethiopian five-piece girl group, originated in Addis Ababa. The group gained a prominence after releasing two singles, "Abet" (2013) and "Taitu" (2014). In some viral part, their lyrical content in singles messages about female empowerment and oppositional stance towards violence against women. After the successful hit "Fikir" in 2019, the group disbanded to pursue their individual career. In May 2020, the group then reunited by a new song called "Yeabay Zemene Lijoch" for the promotion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Endeguena Mulu, also known by his stage name Ethiopian Records, is an Ethiopian music producer and DJ, who produces a genre he refers to as Ethiopiyawi Electronic.

Thomas "Tommy T" Gobena is the bassist for Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello. He is of Ethiopian descent and was born in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. He moved to Washington D.C. in 1987 at the age of 16 and joined Gogol Bordello in 2006. Aside from his work with Gogol Bordello, he also has released one solo album titled The Prester John Sessions.

Kelela Mizanekristos is an American singer and songwriter. She made her debut in the music industry with the release of her 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me. In 2015, she released Hallucinogen, an EP which deals with the beginning, middle, and end of a relationship in reverse chronological order. Her debut studio album, Take Me Apart, was released in 2017.

Abdu Kiar is an Ethiopian singer and rapper. He gained popularity in 2003 with his first album called Merkato Sefere. Abdu Kiar is specialized at reggae and hip-hop music, as well as rapping verses. Abdu also performs Ethiopian music, and able to interlude with hip-hop style genre.

Gétatchèw Mèkurya was an Ethiopian jazz saxophonist.

Gabriel Teodros, is a hip hop artist and a member of the groups Abyssinian Creole and CopperWire. He was raised on Beacon Hill, Seattle, Washington. Teodros' music often features socially conscious themes, and he was a catalyst in the surge of dynamic underground rap acts from the Pacific Northwest during the first decade of the 2000s.

Saint Yared was an Ethiopian composer from Axum, Ethiopia, a pioneer of the traditional music of Ethiopia and Eritrea and creator of religious music for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Eritrean Orthodox Church, and the use in liturgical music, as well as the Ethiopian musical notation system. Additionally, he composed Zema, or the chant tradition of Ethiopia, particularly the chants of the Ethiopian-Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Churches, which are still performed today. He is regarded as a saint of the Ethiopian-Eritrean Orthodox Church with a feast day of May 19. His name is from the Biblical person known in English as "Jared".
