WAída Yolanda Avella Esquivel, or Aída Yolanda Abella Esquivel, is a Colombian pedagogue, psychologist, and politician belonging to the Patriotic Union party. She was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Colombia and a councilor of the city of Bogotá between 1992 and 1996. Avella was a candidate for Vice President in the 2014 presidential election for the Alternative Democratic Pole and Patriotic Union alliance. In the 2018 parliamentarian election, Avella was elected to the Colombian Senate.
WBetsabé Espinal, also erroneously known as Betsabé Espinosa or Espinoza, was a Colombian labor rights activist and leader of a 1920 workers' strike against a fabric factory in Bello, Colombia. Although not the first strike in Colombian history, it was the first strike led by women. The strike was considered to have made a significant impact on the rights of female workers thereafter.

WAngelo Cardona is an international civil servant who currently serves as Representative of Latin America to the International Peace Bureau. He is a Colombian human rights defender, Co-president of the Ibero-American Alliance for Peace and peace ambassador of the Global Peace Chain. Cardona has denounced the human rights violation that his country is experiencing in different international decision-making scenarios such as the United Nations Headquarters, European Parliament, German Parliament, British Parliament, Argentina Congress and Colombian Congress.
WOrlando Fals Borda was a Colombian researcher and sociologist, one of the most important Latin American thinkers, and one of the founders of participatory action research. Together with Father Camilo Torres Restrepo, in 1959 he set up one of the first sociology faculty in Latin America at the National University of Colombia. His perspective built a singular bond between science and politics that changed dramatically the relations between society and knowledge. He also played a key role of the foundation of CLACSO at the end of the sixties. An essential part of his effort was centered on the construction of a perspective from the border and the periphery, focused on the subordination conditions of the Latin American societies. A polemic thinker and militant, Fals Borda developed an ethical conception of the subversion based on a particular method of analysis and a praxis called "positive subversion" through the idea of commitment. Fals Borda's perspective also contributed to develop some recent critical interpretations, such as postcolonialism linked to the analysis of the effects of modernity/coloniality on the South.
WJosé Acevedo y Gómez was an independence hero of Colombia. With an educational background of grammar and philosophy, he became a highly skillful orator and political figure, attaining the position of the Attorney General. Santos was re-elected in 2006 for a second term with President Uribe. His great-uncle Eduardo Santos was President of Colombia from 1938 to 1942 and the succeeding president of Colombia is his cousin. He is currently serving as Ambassador of Colombia to the United States. He presented his credentials to president Donald Trump on September 17, 2018.
