Presented annually by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the award is named after the big granite bull at Lepakshi — a cultural and historical symbol of the Telugu people. WVauhini Studios is an Indian film production company, and one of the largest production houses in South Asia at that time. Vauhini Studios was founded by Moola Narayana Swamy an Indian film producer, known for his works in Telugu cinema. In later years, B. Nagi Reddy acquired Vauhini Studios, and later merged it with Vijaya Vauhini Studios.
