The Minister of Finance is a minister in the Cabinet of South Africa who is the political head of the National Treasury. The Minister of Finance is responsible for the financial management of government affairs, drawing up the budget, and developing economic policy. The Minister of Finance is also responsible for the South African Revenue Service.

Nicolaas Johannes "Nico" Diederichs served as the third state president of South Africa from 1975 to 1978.

He is currently a member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress.

Pravin Jamnadas Gordhan is a politician and anti-apartheid activist who has held various ministerial posts in the Cabinet of South Africa. He served as Minister of Finance from 2009 until 2014 and again from 2015 until 2017, as Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2014 until 2015, and as Minister of Public Enterprises since February 2018.

Sir David Pieter de Villiers Graaff, 1st Baronet was a South African cold storage magnate and politician. Graaff revolutionized the cold storage industry in Africa. He founded the Imperial Cold Storage and Supply Company in 1899, and aggressively ran it until he left to serve in government. Graaff grew the company into one of the largest in Africa. Graaff's wealth soared, at the turn of the century. During World War I he personally part financed the South African war effort and for this he was knighted as well as for services at the Paris Peace Conference 1919.

Nicolaas Christiaan Havenga was a South African politician who served as Finance Minister in the governments of J. B. M. Hertzog and Daniel François Malan.

Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr was a South African politician and intellectual in the years preceding apartheid. In his lifetime he was regarded as one of the cleverest men in the country, and it was widely expected that he would eventually become Prime Minister of South Africa. He came from a well-known Afrikaner family; his uncle, also Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr but known affectionately as "Onze Jan" among fellow Afrikaners, was a famous figure in the Afrikaans language movement.
