Koloth Thattarath Sukumaran, popularly known as Sukumar Azhikode was an Indian academic, orator, critic and writer of Malayalam literature, known for his contributions to Malayalam language and insights on Indian philosophy. He was a scholar in Sanskrit, Malayalam, and English languages and his work, Tatvamasi, published in 1984, is a notable work for its detailed interpretation of Indian philosophy, Vedas and Upanishads. He was a recipient of several honours including Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award and Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary award of the Government of Kerala. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2007, which he refused citing the award was a discrimination.

Panikkassery Keshavan Balakrishnan was an Indian novelist and critic. A doyen of Malayalam literature, he is best known for his novel, Ini Njan Urangatte, a novel based on Mahabharata as well as a number of critical studies which include Chandu Menon Oru Padanam, Novel - Siddhiyum Sadhanayum, Kavyakala Kumaranasaniloode and Ezhuthachante Kala : Chila Vyasabharatha Patanangalum. His work 'Jathivyavasthayum Kerala Charitravum is a work in social history. Kerala Sahitya Akademi awarded him their annual award for novel in 1974. He was also a recipient of the Vayalar Award and other honours.

The historical narrations of cinema have been started from the birth of world cinema till the contemporary Malayalam films. The renowned Malayalam Film Maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan in his book Cinemayude Lokam, which won many awards including the award from Government of India says ; "The history of Malayalam Cinema is not started with stars born with fortunes, from sky. But, it is the tearful story of some, who experimented with their lives and assets. Most of the experiments had been tragedies. We got that history from the articles written by Chelangatt Gopalakrishnan. S. Gupthan Nair called Chelangatt Gopalakrishnan, the Chief Architect of Malayalam Film Literature and Journalism. He was in the Kerala State Film Awards Jury for several years. Many books related with novel, biographies, history and technical aspects of film making have been written by him. He had run a film studio named 'Ajanta Studio' at Aluva. Many classical films including 'Olavum Theeravum' written by M.T. Vasudevan Nair have been filimized at this studio. He had written more than 20 books about cinema alone. Vincent Muthal Vincent Vare, Mukhathodu Mukham, The History of World Cinema, The History of Indian Cinema, The History of Malayalam Cinema, The History of Film Persons in Kerala, The History of Malayalam Journalism etc., are few among them. He was a regular writer about many of the prominent periodicals in Malayalam language."

He was one of the earliest socio-political leaders to have brought Gandhi's message and the spirit of the national movement to the erstwhile Travancore State.
