
Juan Rafael Allende was a Chilean dramatist, author and journalist. He was also known to direct and act in his own plays. He is often recognized as the father of humorous press in Chile. Through writing Allende chastised the aristocratic class and defended ideas of egalitarianism and democracy. Above all he is known for challenging the Catholic clergy.

Santiago Arcos (1822–1874) was a Chilean journalist, politician and writer. He wrote a treatise La cuestion de los indios: las fonteras y los indios (1860), that called for military action against indigenous people.

Diana Frida Arón Svigilisky was a Chilean journalist and a member of the Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria party. She was kidnapped, tortured and forcibly disappeared by agents of the Pinochet dictatorship.

Marina Arrate Palma is a Chilean poet and clinic psychologist.

Efraín Barquero was a Chilean poet. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 2008.

Eduardo de la Barra (1839–1900) was a Chilean writer, diplomat and geographer. De la Barra is known for his polemics, including his opposition to what he perceived as an excessive German cultural and scientific influence in Chile. For this purpose he coined the concept of a "the German bewichment". This earned him criticism as being himself a promoter of Latin culture ("romanizer").

Eduardo Barrios was a Chilean writer and poet born in Valparaíso on October 25, 1884 and died in Santiago on September 13, 1963.

Enrique Campos Menéndez (1914–2007) was Marquee of Torreblanca and a Chilean writer. He was born in Punta Arenas, on 12 August 1914 and died on 12 June 2007. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1986.

Francisco Coloane Cárdenas was a Chilean novelist and short fiction writer whose works have been translated into many languages. Some of his books were adapted to theatre and film.

Hugo Correa was a Chilean journalist and science fiction writer, and is widely credited with launching modern science fiction in Latin America. A couple of his stories appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. He also was a columnist in Chile at the Chilean journals “El Mercurio” and “La Tercera”, also at the Chilean magazines “Ercilla” and “Revista Paula". Also he was the president of the cultural committee of the Instituto Chileno Norteamericano; co-founder of the Chilean SF Club and president of UFO Chile.

Raquel Teresa Correa was a Chilean journalist who spent the main part of her career with the newspaper El Mercurio. She was well known for her interviews and reporting, and was the recipient of Chile's National Prize for Journalism in 1991.

Angel Cruchaga Santa María was a Chilean writer. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1948.

Luis Alberto Edwards Vives was a Chilean historian, nationalist politician and lawyer. He was a member of the influential Edwards family.

Francisco Antonio Encina Armanet was a Chilean politician, agricultural businessman, political essayist, historian and prominent white nationalist. He authored the History of Chile from Prehistory to 1891: with 20 volumes, it stands as the largest individual historical work of the 20th century in Chile. Additionally, he worked with Tancredo Pinochet, Guillermo Subercaseaux, Luis Alberto Edwards Vives and Luis Galdames Galdames as founders of the first Chilean nationalist party.

Paula Escobar Chavarría is a Chilean magazine editor, columnist, journalist, professor and writer. She is a recipient of the Lenka Franulic Award.

Soledad Fariña Vicuña is a Chilean poet.
Pedro Pablo Figueroa Luna was a Chilean writer and researcher. Among his works is the Diccionario biográfico de Chile, first published in 1887.

Edgardo Garrido (1888–1976) was a Chilean writer. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1972.

Enrique Gómez Correa was a Chilean poet, lawyer and diplomat.

Mónica González Mujica is a Chilean writer and journalist. She won the Maria Moors Cabot Prize in 2002, the Dan David Prize in 2006 and UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2010. From 2005-2006 she was editor of es:Diario Siete, a daily paper in Santiago de Chile which ran for a year.

Juan Guzmán Cruchaga was a Chilean poet and diplomat. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1962. Guzman Cruchaga was of Basque descent. He was the son of Juan José Guzmán Guzmán and Amelia Cruchaga Aspillaga. He attended the colegio de San Ignacio from 1905, finishing his humanities subjects in 1912. In 1913 he enrolled into the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile, quitting during his third year there.
Maximiliano Jara Troncoso, better known as Max Jara, was a Chilean poet. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1956.

Jerónimo Lagos Lisboa (1883-1958) was a Chilean poet.

Pedro Lastra is a Chilean poet and essayist.

Mariano Lautaro Latorre Court was a Chilean writer of Basque descent. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1944.

Olegario Lazo Baeza was a Chilean writer.

Samuel Lillo (1870–1958) was a Chilean writer. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1947.

Manuel Antonio Matta was a Chilean politician, lawyer and writer and founder of the Radical Party of Chile along with Pedro Leon Gallo.

María Monvel was a Chilean poet of national significance. Her work was highly praised by Gabriela Mistral.

Luis Orrego Luco was a Chilean politician, lawyer, novelist and diplomat. He served as Minister of Justice from 1918 to 1919 and as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile from 1918 to 1921, representing the Radical Party. He took part in the Chilean Civil War of 1891 as a regimental commander on the Congressist side.

Francisco Ortega is a Chilean journalist, novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and editor.

Fr. Alonso de Ovalle was a Chilean Jesuit priest and chronicler of Chilean history, author of the Historica relacion del Reyno de Chile y de las missiones y ministerios que exercita en él la Compañía de Jesus, describing the Conquest of Chile and the Arauco War. He was great grandson of the Genoese sailor Juan Bautista Pastene.

Magdalena Petit Marfán was a Chilean writer, notable for her popular novels La Quintrala, Los Pincheira and Los Hijos del Caleuche, inter alias. Also she wrote theater pieces, essays and biographies. She was a recipient of the Santiago Municipal Literature Award.

Bernhard Eunom Philippi was a German naturalist, explorer and colonization agent for Chile.

Carlos Pinto is a popular Chilean journalist and television presenter. In 1984, he and Santiago Pavlovic began an investigative program called Informe Especial which airs in TVN. He is the father of the football player Sebastián Pinto. It was the driver of the reality The game of fear of TVN, which was taken off the air shortly after due to poor ratings.

Carlos de Rokha (1920–1962) was a Chilean poet and writer.

Gabriel Salazar Vergara is a Chilean historian. He is known in Chile for his study of social history and interpretations of social movements, particularly the recent student protests of 2006 and 2011–12.

Gaston Salvatore was a Chilean writer living in Germany and writing in the German language.

Salvador Sanfuentes was a Chilean lawyer, politician and poet. He served as Minister of Justice and Public Worship twice, and was elected as MP for the Association of Vallenar.

Fernando Santiván (1886–1973) was a Chilean writer. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1952. His real name was Fernando Santibañez Puga.
Roque Esteban Scarpa Straboni was a Chilean writer, literary critic and scholar. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1980. He was of Croatian and Italian descent.

Hernán del Solar (1901–1985) was a Chilean writer. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1968.

Benjamín Subercaseaux Zañartu (1902–1973) was a Chilean writer and researcher. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1963.

Esteban Valenzuela Van Treek is a Chilean journalist, politician and writer, born in Rancagua. He served as Mayor of Rancagua from 1992 to 1996, and Deputy from 2002 to 2010.

Juvencio Valle, also known by the pseudonym Gilberto Concha Riffo, was a noted Chilean poet. He is a recipient of the Premio Nacional de Literatura de Chile, a National Prize awarded to poets of high achievement.

José Miguel Varas was a Chilean writer. He won the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 2006.
