The Eurovision Song Contest 2015 was the 60th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Vienna, Austria, following Conchita Wurst's win at the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark with the song "Rise Like a Phoenix". It was the second time Austria had hosted the contest, having previously done so in 1967. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), the contest was held at the Wiener Stadthalle and consisted of two semi-finals on 19 and 21 May, and the final on 23 May 2015. The three live shows were hosted by Mirjam Weichselbraun, Alice Tumler and Arabella Kiesbauer, while Conchita Wurst hosted the green room.

The 2015 Graz attack occurred on 20 June 2015, when the perpetrator, identified as Alen Rizvanović, drove a sports utility vehicle at high speeds through the center of Graz, Austria, killing three people in a matter of minutes and injuring 36 others, some of them seriously. At one point during the attack, Rizvanović got out of the vehicle and stabbed passers-by. He was later arrested by police.
