
The Argentine defense industry has developed, over the years, different programs to improve the armed forces of Argentina. The first major steps to establish a defense industry were made during the Second World War and they received a boost during the 1970s after the United States imposed an arms embargo due to human rights violations. The politics of privatization carried out during the 1990s virtually eliminated domestic military production, but many factories were reopened during the last years.

Astilleros Argentinos Río de La Plata S.A. was an Argentine shipyard. Its core business was building and repairing ships and locomotives. It also manufactured pipes, industrial machinery, and tractors. It went out of business in 1994.

CEATSA, is an Argentine high technology testing company providing environmental testing services to the satellite, aeronautics, electronics, automotive, defense, and energy industries. It is jointly owned by the Argentine government owned telecommunications company ARSAT (80%) and public company INVAP (20%).

Chincul SACAIFI was an aircraft manufacturing company in Argentina. The company built Piper Aircraft under license. It was a wholly owned subsidiary of "La Macarena S.A.", Piper's Argentine distributor.

Cicaré S.A. is an Argentine helicopter manufacturer founded by Augusto Cicaré in Saladillo, Buenos Aires Province in the 1970s to develop aircraft of his own design. A number of prototypes were constructed, including one under contract from the Argentine Air Force, but no great successes were achieved until the CH-7 light sporting helicopter in the 1990s.

The Institute of Scientific and Technical Research for Defense, is an Argentine federal agency in charge of research and development in various scientific fields. It is also in charge of homologation of weaponry.

The Fábrica Argentina de Aviones SA (FAdeA), officially Fábrica Argentina de Aviones "Brigadier San Martín" S.A., is Argentina's main aircraft manufacturer. Founded on 10 October 1927 and located in Córdoba, for most of its existence it was known as Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA), until its privatization in the 1990s to Lockheed Martin. In 2009 the concession ended and is wholly owned by the Argentine government.

Fabricaciones Militares, the full name is Fabricaciones Militares Sociedad del Estado, is a state-owned Argentine arms manufacturer based in Buenos Aires. The company was a government agency under the name Dirección General de Fabricaciones Militares.

The company operates in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and delivers projects for nuclear, aerospace, chemical, medical, petroleum and governmental sectors.

The Rio Santiago Shipyard is a shipyard located in the city of Ensenada, Buenos Aires Province at the shores of the Santiago River. It has been one of the major active and important shipyards in Latin America. Founded in 1953, it has realized diverse functions in the naval, industrial and railroad sectors. In its golden age the shipyard reached 8,000 workers on double shift. In 2008 relies on 2,700 workers.

Tandanor is an Argentine shipyard located south of Buenos Aires port which together with Almirante Storni yard constitutes CINAR dedicated to shipbuilding and ship repair. It currently harbors ships from around the globe due to its international renown. It's competitive advantage springs from its Syncrolift: a shiplifting platform that allows vessels to be dry docked and perform simultaneous repairs on its six slipways. In April 2019, Tandanor signed a cooperation agreement with City Bank.
