WPetro Dyachenko was a Ukrainian military commander who served as a staff captain in the Russian Army, colonel in the Ukrainian People's Army (1917–1921), major in the Polish Army (1928–1939), officer in the Volhynian Self-Defence Legion, commander of Panzerjagd-Brigade Vilna Ukraina (1945), and Colonel in the Ukrainian National Army (1945) and commander of the 2nd Division UNA.
WLeonid Kostyantynovych Kadenyuk was the first, and to this day remains the only, astronaut of independent Ukraine who flew into outer space. He flew on NASA's Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 as part of the international mission STS-87. Kadenyuk held the rank of Major General in the Ukrainian Air Force.
