
The Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the unified armed forces of Kazakhstan. It consists of the Ground Forces, Air and Air Defence Forces, Naval Forces, and National Guard. The national defence policy aims are based on the Constitution of Kazakhstan. They guarantee the preservation of the independence and sovereignty of the state and the integrity of its land area, territorial waters and airspace and its constitutional order. The armed forces of Kazakhstan act under the authority of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Defence.

The Zhas Ulan Republican School named after Sagadat Nurmagambetov also known as the Astana Zhas Ulan Republican School is a military boarding school in Kazakhstan's Armed Forces which specializes in the training of Kazakh youth who want to join the military. It came into existence in 1999, and is named after Army General Sagadat Nurmagambetov, the first Defence Minister of Kazakhstan and one of the most notable Kazakh soldiers who took part in the Battle of Berlin. The school was founded as a secondary educational institution with in-depth study of the Kazakh language and foreign languages, with enhanced military and physical discipline. Many of the graduates of the school have come to higher military educational institutions of Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Germany, Turkey and other countries.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan is a government agency of Kazakhstan which is the main executive body in implementing military policy. The Defense Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the head of the Ministry of Defense, whose duties are to exercise the administrative leadership of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The ministry was established in May 1992 and is currently headed by Nurlan Ermekbaev. The first Minister of Defense was Army General Sagadat Nurmagambetov who served from May 1992 to October 16, 1995.
The Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications (VIIREiS) is a specialized educational institution in the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, based in Almaty. It specializes in the preparation of qualified command personnel for communications units, anti-aircraft missile and radioengineering troops, radioengineering for military aircraft, and automated systems for command and control of the armed forces.

The Military Institute of the Kazakh Ground Forces, formerly known as the Alma-Ata Higher Combined Arms Command School – is one of the leading educational institutions in the military education system of the Kazakh Ground Forces. The military academy is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The National Defence University named after the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasi also known commonly as the National Defence University is a higher military educational institution for the training of senior officers in Kazakhstan's Armed Forces. It enrolls state officials, executive authorities, and officers of foreign armies. The main tasks of the NDU are to train officers to become professionals in the armed forces. It is currently led by former Minister of Defense, Colonel General Saken Zhasuzakov.

The Talgat Bigeldinov Military Institute of the Air Defence Forces is a specialized military academy which helps train future servicemen of the Kazakh Air Defense Forces. Established in 1974 as the Aktobe Higher Civil Aviation School (AVLUGA), it originally served the purpose of training specialists in the field of aviation. Until 1996, the AVLUGA served under this name and was renamed to the Military Institute of the Air Defence Forces named after Talgat Begeldinov in July 2003. As of 2013, the institute has produced over 160 lieutenants in the air defence forces, and has trained cadets from foreign countries such as Hungary and Afghanistan.
