
Territorial defence battalions were volunteer military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the auspices of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence in 2014–2015. They should not be confused with the volunteer units of Special Tasks Patrol Police of Ukraine which created along with territorial defense battalions, but under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior. The battalions were established in mid-2014, during the early stages of the War in Donbass, to combat the pro-Russian separatists and the forces of the Donetsk People's Republic, Luhansk People's Republic, and the United Armed Forces of Novorossiya. 32 volunteer territorial defence battalions were formed.

The 5th Territorial Defence Battalion "Prykarpattya" is a former unit of Ukrainian Ground Forces. It was formed in 2014 from volunteers of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, and was subordinated to the Ministry of Defence. Battalion was disbanded in January 2015.

22nd Motorized Infantry Battalion also known as Kharkiv Battalion is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces that was established as 22nd territorial defense battalion "Kharkiv" in 2014. The battalion is subordinated to the Ministry of Defense.

The 39th Motorized Infantry Battalion "Dnipro-2" is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It was created first in spring 2014 as 39th territorial defense battalion "Dnipro-2" from volunteers of Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

40th Motorized Infantry Battalion is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It was originally formed as the 40th Territorial Defence Battalion "Kryvbas" in Kryvyi Rih.

42nd Motorized Infantry Battalion is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It was originally formed as the 42nd Territorial Defence Battalion "Rukh Oporu" in Kirovohrad.

24th Separate Assault Battalion "Aidar", also known as the Aidar Battalion is an assault battalion of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The unit takes part in the war in Eastern Ukraine and has roughly 400 members. It was named after the Aidar River in the Luhansk region where it was initially deployed. As of October 2018 the battalion lost 130 soldiers killed in action.

The 34th Territorial Defense Battalion, is a Territorial Defense Battalion of Ukraine formed from volunteers of the "Resistance movement" (70%) and based in Kirovohrad Oblast and it is currently fighting in the War in Donbas. The unit was formed in June 2014 as part of the parties "Resistance movement" that it created because it felt Russia threatened Ukraine.
