Amaterasu , also known as Ōkami Amaterasu (大神天照), is a fictional character from Capcom's video game Ōkami. She is a white wolf based on the Japanese goddess, Amaterasu , in Japanese mythology. Amaterasu also appears in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Since debuting in Ōkami, Amaterasu has garnered mostly positive reception from both video game publications and fans, often included among the top Capcom characters, best canine characters in games, and one of the best video game protagonists overall.

Atoli is a player character from the online game "The World" where she works for the Guild Moon Tree. During the narrative, Atoli tries to make the antisocial player Haseo into enjoying the world and both end up having argument due to their different ideologies. Guild Moon's member Sasaki starts manipulating her during the second volume of the series as she is manipulated by a virus known as AIDA. She also appears in the printed adaptations of the series as well as the film .hack//G.U. Trilogy among other media.

She is voiced by Nicole Fantl in English and by Rika Fukami in Japanese. He is also the lead character in the anime television series .hack//Roots by Bee Train. A player character from the fictional massively multiplayer online role-playing game The World, he is feared in the .hack//G.U. narrative as the player killer of all player killers. This earned Haseo the nickname "The Terror of Death" . Searching for the killer Tri-Edge, who sent his friend Shino into a coma in real life, Haseo comes into contact with the guild G.U.. They seek to use his PC to destroy AIDA, a computer anomaly responsible for leaving players in a coma. Haseo's appearances in .hack//Roots depict his early days in The World as a member of the Twilight Brigade guild led by Ovan, where he first meets Shino. He has also appeared in other printed adaptations based on the .hack//G.U. games.

Johnny Gat is a fictional character from Volition's Saints Row series of action-adventure video games. Voiced by American actor Daniel Dae Kim, the character was originally introduced in 2006's Saints Row as a lieutenant of the Third Street Saints, a street gang operating out of the Saint's Row district in the fictional city of Stilwater. He continued to make recurring appearances in the series as the loyal though trigger-happy right-hand man and best friend of the gang's leader, the player character. In 2015, Gat received the leading role for the first time in the series in Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, a standalone expansion to 2013's Saints Row IV.

Ovan is introduced as the creator of a guild known as the Twilight Brigade who recruited Haseo and other players until he went missing for unknown reason. He later helps Haseo in his revenge quest against the player killer Tri-Edge who sent their friend Shino into a coma. Across the video games, Ovan looks over Haseo's quest to defeat Tri-Edge, hoping his former subordinate will develop an unknown power. He has also appeared in the games' printed media, including the manga, light novels, among other titles related with .hack.

The protagonist is a player-named character from Persona 3, a 2006 role-playing video game developed by Atlus. In the game, the protagonist is an orphan who transfers to Gekkoukan High School in Iwatodai City and discovers a phenomenon called the Dark Hour during which supernatural entities called Shadows roam freely. After awakening an ability called Persona, the protagonist joins their new schoolmates in the ongoing struggle against Shadows. In the PlayStation 2 version of Persona 3, the protagonist is male; for the later PlayStation Portable version, Atlus added the option to play as a female version of the character, to provide more options to returning players and attract a female demographic.
