
A kennel club is an organization for canine affairs that concerns itself with the breeding, showing and promotion of more than one breed of dog. Kennel clubs became popular in the mid 19th century. All-encompassing kennel clubs are also referred to as 'all-breed clubs', although "all" means only those breeds that they have decided to recognize, and "breed" means purebred dogs, not including dog hybrids and crossbreeds or mixed-breed dogs. A club that handles only one breed is known as a breed club.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) is a registry of purebred dog pedigrees in the United States. In addition to maintaining its pedigree registry, this kennel club also promotes and sanctions events for purebred dogs, including the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, an annual event which predates the official forming of the AKC, the National Dog Show and the AKC National Championship. The AKC is not affiliated with the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.

The Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) is the coordinating kennel club of Australia. The ANKC is a member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.

The Canadian Kennel Club, founded in 1888 and chartered under the Animal Purebred Act, is one of the national kennel clubs of Canada. It maintains breed registries services for those purebred dogs approved for its control by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and provides governance for all CKC-approved dog conformation shows, dog trials and canine events.

The Detroit Kennel Club (DKC) is a local kennel club that aims to educate the public about purebred dogs primarily through hosting an annual back-to-back benched dog show. The Detroit Kennel Club is a member club of the American Kennel Club.

The East Africa Kennel Club is the official kennel club of the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

The Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia Italiana, usually known as ENCI, is the national organisation responsible for dog pedigree registration services in Italy. It is sometimes called the Italian Kennel Club.

The Fédération cynologique internationale (FCI) is an international federation of a number of national kennel clubs. It is based in Thuin, Belgium.

The Indian National Kennel Club is a registry of purebred dogs in India. Beyond maintaining its pedigree registry, this kennel club also promotes and sanctions events for purebred dogs, including dog shows and specialty shows.
The Kennel Club of Pakistan (KCP) is a non-profit kennel club in Pakistan. The organization's main functions are to register pure-bred dogs and to act as governing body for the sport of pure-bred dogs. Its activities include maintenance of pedigree documentation, dog shows, working trials, field trials, obedience classes and tests. The club has reciprocal arrangements with the American Kennel Club and the Kennel Club of England.

The Kennel Union of Southern Africa is the official kennel club of South Africa.

Dogs New Zealand is a member of the FCI.

The Związek Kynologiczny w Polsce, a member of the FCI, is an organization responsible for dog pedigree registration services in Poland. The organization also provides training services, judging for conformation shows, and many other services relating to dog showing.

The Société centrale canine or in full Société Centrale Canine pour l'Amélioration des Races de Chiens en France and abbreviated SCC was founded in 1881 and is made up of regional clubs and breed clubs, and coordinates and regulates activities and connections between governmental groups and dog clubs, as well as activities through the Fédération cynologique internationale, where it was one of the original five founding member organizations in 1911.

Svenska Kennelklubben is a Swedish organization dedicated to purebred dogs, and dog owners. It was formed on 13 December 1889 by a group of noblemen and hunters with the aim to maintain the capability of good hunting dogs. According to its charter, the goals of the organization are "to create interest in, and promote, the breeding of mentally and physically healthy purebred dogs that are adequate in terms of working and hunting and that have a favorable appearance".

The United Kennel Club (UKC) is a kennel club founded in 1898 in the United States. In contrast with the American Kennel Club, which is non-profit and which only clubs can join, the United Kennel Club is a profit-making corporation, open to individuals.

Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen (VDH) is Germany's Kennel club for dogs and represents Germany in the world federation Fédération Cynologique Internationale. It is headquartered in Dortmund, Germany.
