Cecil was a lion who lived primarily in the Hwange National Park in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe. He was being studied and tracked by a research team of the University of Oxford as part of a long-term study.

Sarbi was an Australian special forces explosives detection dog that spent almost 14 months missing in action (MIA) in Afghanistan having disappeared during an ambush on 2 September 2008. Sarbi was later rediscovered by an American soldier, and was reunited with Australian forces pending repatriation to Australia. Her name is sometimes spelled 'Sabi'.

Sivuqaq, also known as Jocko, was a Pacific walrus at the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo California. He was 18 years old as of 2013. He has been the subject of a number of television and radio programmes, most recently focussing on the steps that his keepers have been taking to encourage him to father calves, which has in the past proved difficult for walruses in captivity. He was one of a number of walrus calves brought to Vallejo in 1994; the three other surviving walruses are the females Qiluk, Uquq, and Siku. They were orphaned as the result of hunting near the city of Gambell, Alaska, from whose Yupik name Sivuqaq takes his name. He died in 2015.

Tillman was an English bulldog who held the Guinness World Record for "Fastest 100 m on a skateboard by a dog." He has appeared upon Greatest American Dog and is nicknamed Pot Roast. Tillman rode on the Natural Balance Rose Parade float since 2009. He is one of the stars of Who Let the Dogs Out presented by Petco on the Hallmark Channel. He died on October 27, 2015.
