WSirte District, is one of the districts of Libya. It lies in the north of the country and borders the Gulf of Sidra. Its capital is the city of Sirte. Al-Tahadi University is located in Sirte. To the north, Sirte District has a shoreline on the Mediterranean Sea and bordered Al Wahat in the east, Jufra in the south, Jabal al Gharbi in the west and Misrata in the northwest.
WAbu Qurayn or Abu Grein, also known as El Hisha El Jadida, is a village in Libya. It is located 118 km south of Misrata, and 138 km west of Sirte. It is on the cross-roads between the Libyan Coastal Highway and the Fezzan road.
WBin Jawad, also known as Bin Jawwād, Bin Quwad is a town with estimated 8,488 inhabitants in the Sirte District in Libya. It is approximately halfway between Benghazi and Misrata. The nearest settlements are Nofaliya, which about 20 km to the west, and the port of Sidra, which is about 30 km to the southeast of Bin Jawad.
WBuerat, or Buerat el Hussoun, is a village in western Libya, some 90 km (56 mi) west of Sirte.
WHarawa, is a village in the desert in the Sirte District in Libya. As of 2010, it had 2,600 inhabitants. It is 50 kilometres east of the city of Sirte. As part of the Libyan Civil War, rebel forces claimed on 1 September 2011 that the village had surrendered and by 3 September rebel forces had occupied Harawa. However, these reports proved false and it was not until 17 September that the town fell to the forces of the National Transitional Council.
WNofaliya or Nawfaliya is a town in the desert in the Sirte District of Libya. It is west of Libya's major oil ports.
WQasr Abu Hadi is a village with estimated 4,890 inhabitants in the Sirte District of Libya. It is 2 km east of the Gardabya Airport and 20 km south of Sirte.
WRa's Lanuf is a Mediterranean town in northern Libya, on the Gulf of Sidra. The town is also home to the Ra's Lanuf Refinery, completed in 1984, with a crude oil refining capacity of 220,000 bbl/d (35,000 m3/d). The oil refinery is operated by the Ra's Lanuf Oil & Gas Processing Company, a subsidiary of the state-owned National Oil Corporation. Additionally, the city houses the Ra's Lanuf petrochemical complex – a major oil terminal – and oil pipelines: the Amal–Ra's Lanuf, the Messla–Ra's Lanuf, and the Defa-Ra's Lanuf pipeline.
WSidra or Sidr is a port about 23 km west of Ra's Lanuf in Libya. It is Libya's largest oil depot, shipping about 447,000 barrels per day (71,100 m3/d), and during the Cold War gave its name to the 'Gulf of Sidra', an alternative name for the Gulf of Sirte. Sidra Airport is directly next to the port.
WSirte, also spelled Sirt, Surt, Sert or Syrte, is a city in Libya. It is located south of the Gulf of Sirte, between Tripoli and Benghazi. It is famously known for its battles, ethnic groups, and loyalty to Muammar Gaddafi. Also due to its development, it was the capital of Libya as Tripoli's successor after the Fall of Tripoli from 1 September 2011 to 20 October 2011. The settlement was established in the early 20th century by the Italians, at the site of a 19th-century fortress built by the Ottomans. It grew into a city after World War II.
