Florida is a state located in the Southern United States. There are 282 cities, 109 towns, and 20 villages in the U.S. state of Florida, a total of 411 incorporated municipalities. They are distributed across 67 counties, in addition to 66 county governments. Jacksonville has the only consolidated city–county government in the state, so there is no Duval County government. However, smaller municipal governments exist within the consolidated municipality, i.e., Baldwin and the Jacksonville Beaches. All but one of Florida's county seats are incorporated municipalities . Incorporated municipalities in Florida may be called cities, towns, or villages, but there is no legal distinction between the different terms. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, more than 10 million Floridians, 55% of the state's total population of 18,801,310, lived in incorporated municipalities. The remainder lived in unincorporated areas. However, 94% of the population lives in metropolitan areas. Of the remaining 6%, many live in smaller cities and towns, thus the actual number of residents living in truly rural areas is small. There are ten counties in the state with just one incorporated municipality and ten counties with only two.

The United States territory of Guam is divided into nineteen municipalities, called villages. Each village is governed by an elected mayor. Village populations range in size from under 1,000 to over 40,000. As of the 2000 census, the total population of Guam was 154,805. The entire island is counted as a single county equivalent by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes.

Louisiana is divided into 64 parishes, which are equivalent to counties, and contains 308 incorporated municipalities consisting of four consolidated city-parishes, and 304 cities, towns, and villages. Louisiana's municipalities cover only 7.9% of the state's land mass but are home to 45.3% of its population.

Maryland is a state located in the Southern United States. According to the 2010 United States Census, Maryland is the 19th most populous state with 5,773,785 inhabitants and the 9th smallest by land area spanning 9,707.24 square miles (25,141.6 km2) of land. The state is divided into 23 counties and contains 157 incorporated municipalities consisting of cities, towns, or villages. Its municipalities cover only 4.4% of the state's land mass but are home to 26.2% of its population. As Maryland does not have minor civil divisions such as townships, areas outside of municipalities have no government below the county level.

Michigan is a state located in the Midwestern United States. According to the 2010 United States Census, Michigan is the 10th most populous state with 9,884,129 inhabitants and the 11th largest by land area spanning 56,538.90 square miles (146,435.1 km2) of land. Michigan is divided into 83 counties and contains 533 incorporated municipalities consisting of cities, villages and townships. Specifically, Michigan has 276 cities, 257 villages, and 1,240 townships.

New Jersey is a state located in the Northeastern United States. According to the 2010 United States Census, New Jersey is the 11th most populous state with 8,791,936 inhabitants but the 5th smallest by land area spanning 7,354.22 square miles (19,047.3 km2). New Jersey is divided into 21 counties and contains 565 municipalities consisting of five types: 254 boroughs, 52 cities, 15 towns, 241 townships, and 3 villages. The largest municipality by population in New Jersey is Newark with 277,140 residents whereas the smallest is Tavistock with 5 residents.

This is a List of villages in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in the United States. As of 2007, Lycoming County has fifty-two incorporated municipalities: one city, nine boroughs, and forty-two townships. Thirty-two of Lycoming County's townships have a total of fifty villages and one has a census-designated place (CDP). Villages are marked with signs by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. CDPs are geographical areas designated by the U.S. Census Bureau for the purposes of compiling demographic data. Neither CDPs nor villages are actual jurisdictions under Pennsylvania law and their territory is legally part of the township(s) they are located in.
