
The Western Region is located in south Ghana, spreads from the Ivory Coast in the west to the Central region in the east, includes the capital and large twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi on the coast, coastal Axim, and a hilly inland area including Elubo. It includes Ghana's southernmost location, Cape Three Points, where crude oil was discovered in commercial quantities in June 2007. The region covers an area of 23,921 sq. km, and had a population of 2,376,021 at the 2010 Census; the latest official projected population is 3,093,201.

The Ankasa Conversation Area is an area in southwestern Ghana, in Ghana's Western Region, about 365 kilometers west of Accra near the border with Côte d'Ivoire. It incorporates the Nini Suhien National Park in the North, and the Ankasa Forest Reserve in the South.

Awaso is a village near the district capital Tarkwa of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal district, a district in the Western Region of Ghana. Awaso has a bauxite mine operated by the Ghana Bauxite Company. The mine is served by a rail branch line on the western Ghana rail system, however in 2007, much of the ore goes by road.

Axim is a coastal town and the capital of Nzema East Municipal district, a district in Western Region of South Ghana. Axim lies 64 kilometers west of the port city of Sekondi-Takoradi in Western Region to the west of Cape Three Points. Axim has a 2013 settlement population of 27,719 people.

Beyin is a village in the Jomoro district, a district in the Western Region of Ghana. Beyin contains the Fort Apollonia Castle.

Butre is a village in the Ahanta West district, district in the Western Region of Ghana. Butre contains the Fort Batenstein Castle.

Chirano Gold Mine is an underground and open pit gold mine in the Western Region of Ghana, within the Bibiani gold belt. It is 90% owned by Toronto-based Kinross Gold Corporation. The Government of Ghana has a 10% carried interest.

Elubo is a town in the Jomoro district, a district in the Western Region of Ghana.

Essiama is a town near Axim in the Nzema East Municipal District, a district in the Western Region of Ghana.

Essikado-Ketan is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Essikado-Ketan is located in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly of the Western Region of Ghana. The current Member of Parliament is Hon. Joe Ghartey.

Fort San Sebastian located in Shama, Ghana is the third oldest fortification in Ghana.

Huni Valley formerly known as Tinkwakrom is a small town in the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western Region in west central Ghana. It is one of the Wassa groups and a divisional arm to the Wassa Fiase people. They are the Bosomtwi traditional group and lead by Nana Kwanena Amponsah IV.

The Iduapriem Gold Mine is an open-pit gold mine situated 10 km south of Tarkwa, in the Western Region of Ghana. The mine is owned by AngloGold Ashanti and consists of the Iduapriem and the Teberebie operation, which were merged in 2000. AngloGold Ashanti originally only owned 85% of the mine but acquired the remaining 15% in September 2007.

New Town is a village in the Jomoro district, a district in the Western Region of Ghana, adjacent to the border with Ivory Coast. The major highway that runs through the village is Half Assini - New Town Rd.

Nkroful is a village in the Ellembelle District, a district in the Western Region of south Ghana, located near Axim in the Nzema East Municipal of the Western Region.

Prestea is a town in the Western Region, in southwest Ghana and about 50 km north of the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It lies on the west bank of the Ankobra River, about 60 mi (100 km) northwest of Cape coast. The town is part of the Prestea-Huni Valley District. Prestea is the forty-sixth most populous in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 35,760 people. A railway line connects with Prestea to Tarkwa and beyond to the coastal city of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Tarkwa is a town and is the capital of Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal district, a district in the Western Region southwest of South Ghana. Tarkwa has a 2013 settlement population of 34,941 people.

TNA Park is a multi-use stadium in Tarkwa, Ghana. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Ghana Premier League team Medeama SC. The stadium currently holds 12,000 people. With the promotion of Emmanuel Stars FC to the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 2010–2011 season, the stadium became their home ground.
