It has played a role in the 19th-century Anglo-Ashanti Wars. The Amedzofe Training School was built in 1880 by German missionaries.

Fort Prinzenstein is a fort located at Keta, Ghana which was used in the slave trade. Many such forts were built in Africa, but Prinzenstein is one of the few that lie east of the Volta River. Keta served as an open port until the Tema Harbour commenced its operation to the west in 1962. The fort has been designated a World Heritage property.

The Municipality has a total land area of 1,172 km2, which is 5.6 percent of the land area of the region. It shares borders with the Republic of Togo on the east, forming part of Ghana's international border; on the southeast by the Afadzato district and southwest by Kpando Municipality; on the north with Jasikan district; and on the northwest with the Biakoye districts. Its capital, Hohoe, is about 78 kilometres from Ho, the regional capital and 220 km from Accra, the national capital. The population of Hohoe Municipality, according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census, is 167,016 representing 7.9 percent of the total population of the Volta Region. It comprises 52.1 percent females and 47.9 percent males

Mount Afadja, known in the French language as Mont Afadjato and in the Ewe language as Afadjato, is the highest mountain in Ghana. The summit of this peak is located near the border with Togo, in the Volta Region of Ghana, close to the village of Liati Wote in Afadzato South District. It is about 178 kilometers (111 mi) northeast of Accra, and 178 kilometers (111 mi) northwest of Lomé. Part of the Agumatsa sub-range of the West Africa Mountains, its summit is 885 metres (2,904 ft) above sea level. The summit of Mount Aduadu lies 3.5 kilometers (2 mi) to the east of Mount Afadja.

Nogokpo is a small village located in the Ketu South Municipal of the Volta Region of Ghana along the Trans–West African Coastal Highway. It is noted for its traditional and spiritual shrine.

Peki is a town in the South Dayi District in the Volta Region of Ghana. It comprises eight subtowns, each with a subchief - Tsame, Avetile, Afeviwofe, Blengo, Dzake, Wudome, Dzobati and Adzokoe. All of these subchiefs swear allegiance to a paramount chief known as Deiga. The current paramount chief is Deiga Kwadzo Dei XII. The town is known for the Peki Secondary School, the E.P Seminary and the government training college GOVCO. The school is a second cycle institution.

Shia is a town in the Ho Municipal Assembly, a district of the Volta Region of Ghana. Etymology The name Shia originates from the activities of the Forebears of Shia who were particularly brave and so decided to carry out an act of knowing the content of an item and in the process tore open the item. The noise that emanated from the process was used to describe the people who had engaged in that act. The noise was shiiaaa and so the people were identified as the Shia people.. Location Shia is a town in Ghana within the Volta Region of Ghana. It is located about 16 Kilometers from Ho the regionals capital of the Volta region. It is to the east of Ho and is a border town between Ghana and Togo. It is within the Ho district and resides in the Shia-Ave constituency for electoral purposes. It is one of three border towns within the eastern Ho corridor. History The Shia people were part of the Original Ewe people who originated from Nutsie in Nigeria and travel all the way through Benin, Togo, through the Keta and Anlo areas and finally settle in the Ho surrounding areas. The Shia people in particular settled at Taviefe where they were for several years and only moved to their present location after some disagreement with colleagues about the content of product which resulted in them splitting the item into two which ultimately resulted in them being forced to vacate the community to their present day place. Climate The Climate of Shia is a forest area with rainfall patterns similar to that of Ho. It lies 153 millimeters above sea level. It has a tropical climate. The average annual temperature is 26.8 degrees Celsius. It has about three active seasons; Rainfall Season, Mix of autumn and spring season and Harmattan season. Administration Shia is in the Ho District and has Ho as the district capital. Shia is also part of the Norvisi Traditional area made of 11 communities who decided to be together for purposes of unity and development. Demographics The town has a population of about 2000 inhabitants. There are more women and children than men. The population split is guessed at 60/40 split in favour of women Migration There has been significant migration of the people of Shia to the cities. The main cities that have benefitted from the skills of the people of Shia are Accra, Kumasi and Ho. There has also been the migration of Shia people abroad. It is estimated there would be over 100 Shia person domiciled abroad. Housing The community was communally developed. The houses are well spaced with cleared streets etc. Economy The Economy is agrarian and some minimal commercial activities that are mainly driven by the activities at the Ghana Togo border. Primary sector The primary sector is Agriculture Education There are a number of schools from Pre-schools through to Jss and Secondary school. There is however no tertiary school in the community. Healthcare There is one active Health Clinic in the community that takes care of the people. Infrastructure There is a motorable road to the community. The road is tarred and leads from Ho and ends at Shia. T Transportation There are taxis and buses that ply the road to Shia. The private sector provides regular active transportation. Sport Shia had an active football club call Shia mighty warriors. Unfortunately due to administrative challenges the club is not so active. Places of worship There are a lot of active Orthodox, evangelical, Pentecostal and Charismatic churches Churches include Catholic Church, Evangelical Presbyterian church, Assemblies of God Church, Pentecost Church, Christ is the same Church, Light House Church and Global Evangelical Presbyterian church. Culture The Culture of the people is built on the general culture of the Ewe people of Ghana. The Shia people are humanist in nature. Their activities are communal in they are each other’s keeper. The family structures are built around the extended family structures.

Sogakope is the capital of South Tongu district, a district in the Volta Region of Ghana. It is home to the lower Volta Bridge which connects Sogakope to Sokpoe. The town is mostly known for its river tourism and Mass bread production. The lower Volta Bridge is also the site for the famous Tortsogbeza, an annual festival held during Easter, which involves diving off the bridge, and is held in conjunction with the neighbouring town, Sokpoe. It is home to the Holy Trinity Spa, Cisneros Villa Hotel and other notable resorts including Shekinah Glory Hotel, Sogakope Resort etc. Most commuters plying the Accra to Aflao road usually stop over to buy snacks and bread. The town is mostly known for bread baking as well.

Tokor is a village in the Ketu Municipal district, a district on the south-eastern corner of the Volta Region of Ghana, near the Ghana-Togo border.

Vakpo is a town in the North Dayi district, a district in the Volta Region of Ghana. The town is known for the Vakpo Senior high School (Vasec) and Vakpo senior high Tech (Vastech) and its famous farm land called Dzogbega which produces garden eggs and mango farms for local consumption and export. Vume is a small town in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region near Sogakope. The residents of Vume are well noted for the art of pottery.

Weta is a village in Ghana in the Volta Region. Wheta is the place of birth of the Ghanaian poet Kofi Awoonor, who died in the Westgate shopping mall shooting in Nairobi on 21 September 2013.
