WEdmonton's current route system, originally put in place as part of Edmonton's "Horizon 2000" transit plan, was approved by city council in July 1996 and put in place on June 29, 1997. The system made changes, in one form or another, to almost all 130 routes in operation at the time. This system is generally composed of base routes, designed to connect communities across the city, and area specific routes numbered by region. On December 5, 1976 all routes in Edmonton not already using a numeral only designation were switched to use a numeral only designation.

WEdmonton Light Rail Transit, commonly referred to as the LRT, is a light rail system in Edmonton, Alberta. Part of the Edmonton Transit System (ETS), the 21-kilometre Capital Line starts at Clareview in Edmonton's northeast and ends at Century Park in Edmonton's south end. A second route, the Metro Line to areas north of the downtown, opened on September 6, 2015. The Metro Line includes a 3.3-kilometre (2.1 mi) extension in the LRT system from Churchill LRT Station in downtown Edmonton northwest to NAIT LRT Station.
