WCrimea is a peninsula located on the northern coast of the Black Sea in Eastern Europe that is almost completely surrounded by both the Black Sea and the smaller Sea of Azov to the northeast. The status of Crimea is disputed. It is claimed by Ukraine and recognized as Ukrainian by most other countries, although it has been administered by Russia following its annexation to the country in 2014. Crimea is located south of the Ukrainian region of Kherson, to which it is connected by the Isthmus of Perekop, and west of the Russian region of Kuban, from which it is separated by the Strait of Kerch though linked by the Crimean Bridge since 2018. The Arabat Spit is located to the northeast, a narrow strip of land that separates a system of lagoons named Sivash from the Sea of Azov. Across the Black Sea to its west is Romania, and to its south, Turkey.
WThe Crimean Peninsula is a disputed area which as a result of the 2014 Crimean crisis is controlled and recognized by Russia as the Republic of Crimea, a federal subject of Russia. At the same time, Ukraine and most UN countries around the world recognize the territory as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a part of Ukraine.
WCrimean Nature Reserve is a protected nature reserve that covers a portion of the Crimean Mountains, on the south coast of the Crimean Peninsula. It is the largest and oldest nature reserve in Ukraine. The reserve protects mountain-forest and meadow steppe plants and animals, with a high level of biodiversity. It is located just north of the town of Massandra.
WKaradag Nature Reserve is a protected nature reserve that covers a portion of the southeast coast of the Crimean peninsula. Encompassing mountains, forest-steppe, shoreline and marine areas, Karadag is an area of high biodiversity and the subject of much scientific study throughout the past 100 years. It supports a high number of Crimea's endemic species, and important bird colonies. The reserve is 36 km southwest of the city of Feodosia, and is currently administered by the Russian Academy of Sciences.
WThe Kazantypskyi Nature Reserve is a small reserve in the Lenine Raion on the Kerch Peninsula in Crimea. The reserve includes both territory of Cape Kazantyp and coast-aquatic-complex.
WThe North Crimean Canal is a land improvement canal for irrigation and watering of Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine, and the Crimean Peninsula. The canal also has multiple branches throughout Kherson Oblast and the Crimean Peninsula.
WPort Krym is a port in Crimea. It is located on the western shore of Kerch Strait, in the north-eastern part of Kerch city near a settlement of Zhukivka. Next to the port is located the Krym railway station.
WSwan Islands Nature Reserve is a strict nature reserve, protecting a series of islands off the northwest coast of the Crimean Peninsula that this an important resting place for migratory birds in the summer and fall, and a nesting place in winter. It is a sub-unit of the Crimean Nature Reserve. The reserve was created in 1949, and covers an area of 9,612 hectares (37.11 sq mi). Administratively, it is in Rozdolne Raion of Crimea.
