Sukhumi or Sokhumi is a city on the Black Sea coast. It is the capital of the unrecognised Republic of Abkhazia, which has controlled it since the 1992–93 war in Abkhazia, although most of the international community considers it legally part of Georgia.

It is located in the village of Babushara next to the larger village of Dranda and some 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Sukhumi, the capital of the autonomous republic.

The Sukhumi Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Caucasus. It was founded in 1840 as Sukhum-Kale Military-Botanical Garden by the head of the Russian Black Sea fortification line N. N. Rayevsky with the purpose of the introduction of new plants in the region. It was ravaged by Turkish forces in 1853–55 and 1877–78 in the course of the Russo-Turkish wars. The garden was transferred to civil authorities in 1889 and the restoration of the plantings was begun in 1894.

The Sokhumi stela is a piece of ancient Greek art—a marble gravestone (stela), depicting a woman and two children—found in 1953 underwater in the Black Sea near Sukhumi in Abkhazia/Georgia. It is now on display at the Sukhumi State Museum.
