The county has been affected by the civil war between Sudanese People's Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA) and the National Congress Party (NCP) of the Sudanese government. Lainya had been bombed by planes and artillery of the Sudanese government against the SPLA/M rebels during the war.

Leer County is an administrative division of Western Upper Nile in South Sudan. The headquarters are in the town of Leer.

Lujulo is a county in Yei River State, South Sudan. It is located at around 3°41′2.92″N 30°40′41″E, in the elevation of around 1195 metres.

Greater Maban is a county located in the Upper Nile State of South Sudan. The county capital is the town of Bunj. In 2017, the South Sudan government divided the county into two: North East and South West.

Mayom County is an administrative region in Northern Liech of South Sudan to the west of Bentiu. The county headquarters is Mayom town.

Nasir County is an administrative area in Latjoor state, South Sudan. The headquarters is the town of Nasir, on the north side of the Sobat River, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) as the crow flies from the Ethiopian border.
