
Novosibirsk Oblast is a federal subject of Russia located in southwestern Siberia. Its administrative and economic center is the city of Novosibirsk. The population was 2,788,849 as of the 2018 Census.

The Baraba are a sub-group of Siberian Tatars and the indigenous people of the Ob-Irtysh interfluve. After a strenuous resistance to Russian conquest and much suffering at a later period from Kyrgyz and Kalmyk raids, they now live by agriculture — either in separate villages or along with Russians. Some of them still speak Baraba dialect of Siberian Tatar language. They traditionally live on the Baraba steppe.

The Chats — are one of the three subgroups of Tom Tatar group of Siberian Tatars. Their traditional areas of settlement are on the rivers Ob, Chick, Uen', and Chaus in Kozhevnikovsky District, Tomsk Oblast, and in Kolyvansky and Moshkovsky districts, Novosibirsk Oblast since the 8th century, later also on the territory of modern Shegarka, Tomsk, Kochenjovskogo, Bolotninskogo, Novosibirsk, Toguchinskogo, Iskitimskogo, Orda areas, and in the cities Tomsk, Novosibirsk, and Berdsk.

The Legislative Assembly of Novosibirsk Oblast refers to the regional legislature in Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia. It is a unicameral body with a total of 76 representatives (deputies) elected for five-year terms. According to the Charter Of Novosibirsk Oblast, the Legislative Assembly is "the standing, supreme and exclusive legislative (representative) authority" of the Oblast. The Assembly is responsible for appointing the Governor of the Oblast, voting for or against a candidate proposed by the President of Russian Federation.

The Russian route R256, also known as Chuya Highway or Chuysky Trakt, is a trunk road in Novosibirsk Oblast, Altai Krai and Altai Republic of Russia. Its length is 953 kilometres. The width is 7 metres. It is also a part of the Asian Highway AH4.

Siberian Tatars, the indigenous Turkic-speaking population of the forests and steppes of South Siberia, originate in areas stretching from somewhat east of the Ural Mountains to the Yenisei River in Russia. The Siberian Tatars call themselves Yerle Qalyq, to distinguish themselves from more recent Volga Tatar immigrants to the region.
