
Ogun State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. Created in 1976, it borders Lagos State to the south, Oyo and Osun states to the north, Ondo to the east and the Republic of Benin to the west. Abeokuta is the capital and largest city in the state. The state's appellation is "Gateway to Nigeria". It was created in February 1976 from the former Western State. The 2006 census recorded a total population of 3,751,140 residents.

The Abeokuta flyover is a flyover in the city of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. The flyover was constructed at Ibara roundabout, Abeokuta by the Ogun State Government led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun. It is the first flyover constructed in the state. It was commissioned on Thursday January 24, 2013. The investment worth of the flyover is tagged at N1.5bn.

Celestial City, Imeko is the Holy City of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). It is located in the Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, very close to the border with Benin. Celestial City is known as "Jerusalem" by the celestials. The city has potential as a tourist location.

Covenant University (CU) is a private Christian university in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. It is affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities and National Universities Commission. In 2019, Covenant University became the first Nigerian university to be ranked in the top 401-500 category of world universities by Times Higher Education.

Gateway Football Club is a Nigerian football club, in the town of Abeokuta, in Ogun State. They returned to the top level of professional football in Nigeria, the Nigeria Premier League in 2008 after being relegated in 2005 after a one-year stint. They were sent down again in 2010 where they compete in the second tier of Nigeria Football which is the Nigeria National League. Gateway are playing in the division B1 of the 2018 NNL season.

Iwoye-Ketu is a town primarily located in Imeko Afon, Ogun State in southwest Nigeria with its western portion in Benin. The community shares a border with the Iwajowa local government area of Oyo State on the north. It is renowned for its production of cotton.

The Ogun prison break was an attack on the Sagamu minimum prison in the southwestern Nigerian city of Ogun State by the prisoners. The attack occurred on 4 January 2013. About 20 prisoners escaped from the prison leaving several prison officials and prisoners seriously injured with no death recorded. About 4 escaped convicts were rearrested by the Armed Squad of the Prison Service. It was reported that one escaped convict returned to the prison voluntarily to serve out his short sentence
