
The Volleyball 2018–19 V.League Division 1 Men's will be the 25th tournament year and the 1st top level men's tournament of the newly branded and reorganized V.League (Japan). It will be held from October 26, 2018 – April 14, 2019.

The Volleyball 2021–22 V.League Division 1 Women's is the 28th volleyball tournament year and includes the 4th top level women's volleyball tournament of the newly branded and reorganized V.League (Japan) scheduled for October 15, 2021 – April 17, 2022.

The 2019 IAAF World Relays was held in Yokohama, Japan from May 11 to May 12, 2019. Two new events were established for 2019, both mixed events: the 2 × 2 × 400 m relay and the shuttle hurdles relay. The first event replaced the 4 × 800 m relay that featured at previous events.

The 2019 IFSC Climbing World Championships, the 16th edition, were held in Hachioji, Japan from 11 to 21 August 2019. The championships consisted of lead, speed, bouldering, and combined events. The paraclimbing event was held separately from 16 to 17 July in Briançon, France. The combined event also served as an Olympic qualifying event for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The 2019 Japan Open was a BWF World Tour 750 event which took place at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza in Tokyo, Japan, from 23 to 28 July 2019. It had a total purse of $750,000.

The 2019 World Judo Championships were held in Tokyo, Japan from 25 August to 1 September 2019.

Japan competed at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy from 3 to 14 July 2019. This was the nation's 18th appearance at the Summer Universiade since making its debut at the 1985 edition. Japan finished the multi sport event at the top of the medal tally with 82 medals in 11 different sporting events.

The 2019 Tokyo Marathon was the thirteenth edition of the annual marathon race in Tokyo and was held on Sunday, 3 March. An IAAF Gold Label Road Race, it was the first World Marathon Majors event to be held that year. The men's race was won by Birhanu Legese in 2:04:48 hours while the women's race was won by Ruti Aga in 2:20:40.

Japan competed at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea from 12 to 28 July.

Japan competed at the inaugural World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar from 12 to 16 October 2019. In total, athletes representing Japan won three gold medals and two silver medals. The country finished in 8th place in the medal table.

Japan competed at the 2019 World Championships in Athletics in Doha, Qatar from 27 September to 6 October 2019. The country finished in 8th place in the medal table.

The 2019 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Saitama, Japan, from March 18–24, 2019.

The 53rd World Rowing Junior Championships took place from 7 to 11 August 2019 at the Sea Forest Waterway, Odaiba in Tokyo, Japan.
