The Challenge of the Cults and New Religions: The Essential Guide to Their History, Their Doctrine, and Our Response is a Christian countercult non-fiction book about cults and new religious movements by Ron Rhodes. The book was published by Zondervan on September 1, 2001. The book defines cults and new religions by examining case studies of twelve groups chosen by Rhodes. The book includes a foreword by Lee Strobel, author of the book The Case for Christ.

An Insider's View of Mormon Origins is a 2002 book about the origins of Mormonism by Grant H. Palmer, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who was a Church Educational System instructor and Institute director with a master's degree in history.

Joseph Smith and the Origins of the Book of Mormon is a 1985 book by David Persuitte. A second expanded edition was published in 2000. It provides detailed biographical information about Joseph Smith and background information about the origin of the Book of Mormon. In the book, Persuitte provides a large number of parallels in support of the idea that Joseph Smith used an earlier work, View of the Hebrews, as a source of ideas in creating the Book of Mormon.

The Kingdom of the Cults, first published in 1965, is a reference book of the Christian countercult movement in the United States, written by Baptist minister and counter-cultist Walter Ralston Martin. As of 2019, the book is in its sixth updated edition.

Latter-day Dissent: At the Crossroads of Intellectual Inquiry and Ecclesiastical Authority is a 2011 book edited, with an introduction, by Philip Lindholm. It chronicles the stories of prominent LDS intellectuals who faced disciplinary action by the LDS Church. The book features contributions from members of the September Six, including Lynne Kanavel Whitesides, Paul Toscano, Maxine Hanks, Lavina Fielding Anderson, D. Michael Quinn, as well as Janice Merrill Allred, Margaret Merrill Toscano, Thomas W. Murphy, and Donald Jessee. Lindholm's analysis combined with Diarmaid MacCulloch's foreword and the interviews themselves collectively discuss the nature and extent of intellectual freedom and disciplinary action in the LDS Church.

The Mormon Prophet and His Harem; or, an Authentic History of Brigham Young, His Numerous Wives and Children. is a biography of Brigham Young by C. V. Waite, first published in 1866.

Mormonism Unvailed [sic] is a book published in 1834 by Eber D. Howe. The title page proclaims the book to be a contemporary exposé of Mormonism, and makes the claim that the historical portion of the Book of Mormon text was based upon a manuscript written by Solomon Spalding."A faithful account of that singular imposition and delusion, from its rise to the present time. With sketches of the characters of its propagators, and a full detail of the manner in which the famous Golden Bible was brought before the world. To which are added, inquiries into the probability that the historical part of the said Bible was written by one Solomon Spalding, more than twenty years ago, and by him intended to have been published as a romance.".

No Man Knows My History: The Life of Joseph Smith is a 1945 book by Fawn M. Brodie, one of the first significant non-hagiographic biographies of Joseph Smith, the progenitor of the Latter Day Saint movement.

The Rocky Mountain Saints: A Full and Complete History of the Mormons is an 1873 book by T. B. H. Stenhouse, in which the author gives a thorough treatment of the origins of the Latter Day Saint movement from the perspective of a former member. The book is critical in tone, and is considered by many Mormons to be anti-Mormon.

Secret Ceremonies: A Mormon Woman's Intimate Diary of Marriage and Beyond is a 1993 autobiographical book written by American journalist and columnist Deborah Laake.

Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith is a nonfiction book by author Jon Krakauer, first published in July 2003. He investigated and juxtaposed two histories: the origin and evolution of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a modern double murder committed in the name of God by brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who subscribed to a fundamentalist version of Mormonism.

Benjamin Gilbert Ferris was a Secretary to the Territorial Government of Utah, a lawyer, a district attorney and leader in Ithaca (town), New York.

Ann Eliza Young also known as Ann Eliza Webb Dee Young Denning was one of Brigham Young's fifty-five wives and later a critic of polygamy. She spoke out against the suppression of women and was an advocate for women's rights during the 19th century.
