He is a wealthy, materialistic Wall Street investment banker who leads a secret life as a serial killer. Bateman has also briefly appeared in other Ellis novels and their film and theatrical adaptations.

Although the Joker was planned to be killed off during his initial appearance, he was spared by editorial intervention, allowing the character to endure as the archenemy of the superhero Batman.

A psychopathic criminal mastermind and mass murderer with a warped, sadistic sense of humor, the Joker is hired by Gotham City's mob bosses to kill the vigilante Batman, and also comes into conflict with Batman's allies, Gotham police officer James Gordon and district attorney Harvey Dent. The Joker embodies themes of chaos, anarchy and obsession: throughout the film, he expresses a desire to upset the social order in Gotham through crime, and defines himself by his conflict with Batman.

Cletus Cortland Kasady is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer David Michelinie and artist Erik Larsen, the character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 as the first and most infamous host of the Carnage symbiote, an offspring of Venom. Originally a deranged serial killer, Kasady bonded with the symbiote while sharing a cell with Venom's human host, Eddie Brock, and broke out of prison using the super-human abilities granted by it. Since then, he went on to menace both Venom and Spider-Man, resulting in various unlikely alliances between the two to defeat him. Kasady and Carnage are a perfect match, as they both have sadistic personalities, and the symbiote only increases Kasady's already existent violent tendencies.

Vaas Montenegro is a fictional character from Ubisoft's Far Cry video game franchise. He appears in the 2012 title, Far Cry 3, and was extensively featured in promotional material for the game. Conceived and designed by Ubisoft's development team as a villainous character who is comparable in stature to Star Wars's Darth Vader, Vaas is portrayed in all relevant media by Canadian actor Michael Mando. Mando decided to improvise for his audition and did not follow the developers 's script, but they were so impressed by his performance that the primary villain of Far Cry 3 was redesigned to match Mando's physicality. The creative team worked in tandem with Mando to flesh out Vaas' characterization. The game's story was eventually changed to include a more frenetic, sociopathic villain in response to Mando's performance, which is a different creative direction from what the developers had originally intended.
