The song's lyrics talk about reclaiming one's identity and answer the question, "what does it mean to be a free woman?".

A Girl Like Me: Letters to My Lovers is an extended play by American singer-songwriter and drag queen Peppermint. It was released on October 16, 2020 by Producer Entertainment Group and distributed by Warner's Alternative Distribution Alliance. Letters to My Lovers is the first of a trilogy of EPs, with the other two EPs planned for release in 2021. The lead single from the EP, "Best Sex", was released on October 2, 2020. The EP was also released alongside a short film of the same name. A remix ep called Letters was released on April 16, 2021.

It was released on April 13, 2020, the two-year anniversary of their first studio album Wasteisolation, under Blacksquares Records. Transgender Street Legend, Vol. 2 is the eighth extended play by American singer-songwriter and producer Left at London, released on September 25, 2020. The EP was promoted by the singles "6 Feet", "Do You See Us?", "Safety First", and "T-Shirt". It is the sequel to her EP Transgender Street Legend, Vol. 1, which was released in November 2018 to "a rousing reception". Puff has confirmed that a third volume is forthcoming. The title Transgender Street Legend is a reference to a video on the social media platform Vine, where Puff achieved much of her early notoriety.

True Trans is an acoustic EP by American punk rock band Against Me!. The band released it as a digital single on July 12, 2013 through their label, Total Treble Music. The two songs on the EP were made available via an email download link to those who preordered tickets for Laura Jane Grace's August 2013 tour of the U.S. East Coast. It was later distributed as a 7".

"Walk on the Wild Side" is a song by Lou Reed from his second solo album, Transformer (1972). It was produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson and released as a double A-side with "Perfect Day". Known as a counterculture anthem, the song received wide radio coverage and became Reed's biggest hit and signature song despite touching on taboo topics such as transgender people, drugs, male prostitution, and oral sex.
