Gamer, alternatively spelt Gámer or Gaamer, was a debut feature-length film directed by Oleg Sentsov. It was released in Russian and Ukrainian language in 2011. He tells of a young gamer, who lives with his mother in Simferopol. The premiere was held in 2012 in Rotterdam. The film participated in several international film festivals and was a highly marked by the professional community, in particular, a premium Russian Guild of Film Critics at the festival Spirit of Fire in Khanty-Mansiysk.

The Games, Learning & Society academic conference, or GLS conference, was an annual gathering of academic researchers, video game developers, and government and industry leaders in Madison, Wisconsin, to discuss the social significance of gaming culture. Specifically, they examined how games can be used to transform how people learn and what implications that knowledge has for society. According to the official website, the conference's stated mission was to foster substantive discussion and collaboration among academics, designers, and educators interested in how videogames - commercial games and others—can enhance learning, culture, and education. The founder and chair was Constance Steinkuehler. The first conference was held in 2005, and took place at the Monona Terrace, a conference center inspired by the design of Wisconsin architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The final conference was held in 2016, where Constance Steinkuehler announced she was leaving the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and that the GLS conference would not continue in her absence. A similar conference, Play Make Learn Conference, meant to continue the work and is also held annually at University of Wisconsin–Madison.

"Into the Pixel" is an annual art exhibit centered on video game concept artwork, and started in 2004. The exhibit, sponsored by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), is designed to showcase concept artwork from past and future video games, with sixteen winners selected from a panel of judges from both the field of video games and from art museums. The winners are presented for public display during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (May–June), and with subsequent showings at other video game-related exhibitions such as the Penny Arcade Expo. The winning works of art are then later auctioned at the annual D.I.C.E. Summit (February) with the funds put towards a scholarship program. For the 2013 program, more than 200 works were submitted by various artists.

The Philippine Game Festival, commonly known as PGF, is an annual video game convention held in Manila, the Philippines since 2009. It is usually held in October or November and is organized by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines, the local trade association for the game industry. The gaming convention is the largest gathering of game enthusiasts, designers, and developers in the entire local game development industry. The convention also features two sub-events: the Game On Challenge, an annual game development competition for students, and the PGF Annual Awards, a ceremony recognizing the country's best developers and the games made throughout the year. The most recent Philippine Game Festival took place at the Alpha Tents in Makati last October 2015.

The Russian Game Developers' Conference, or KRI, was an annual event for industry professionals devoted to game development, publishing and distribution in Russia and surrounding territories. The show also featured the presentation of the annual KRI awards, a professional game awards. Attendance at KRI was relatively compared with some of the better-known game developer conferences abroad. However, this was mainly attributed to the population densities in the enormous geographic range that the conference covered and the difficulties in transportation. Back then Russian distribution video game networks were often plagued by software pirates. Due to the spread of digital distribution and the adoption Russian anti-piracy legislation, KRI grew each year, having been able to provide accommodation for attendants from afar. KRI also helped to establish and entrench various anti-piracy measures.
