Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University, formerly Bhatkhande Music Institute, is a music institute in Lucknow. Established in 1926 by Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, it was declared a deemed university by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2000, and offers music education in Vocal Music, Instrumental, Rhythms, Dance, Musicology and Research and Applied Music.

As a Technical Commercial Industrial School, it was in 1910 that this institution started functioning. At that time, art education was basically an industrial training in order to produce skilled craftsmen and related vocational labors. During the second world war, the institution was renamed as ‘Government Trade School’. From 1943 to 1975, it was known as Government Occupational Institute. The fundamental shift from a vocational labor towards a more aesthetic ‘Fine Arts’ orientation occurred when it was upgraded as Govt.Institute of Fine Arts, in the year 1975. This was also about a raise and shift in the status of ‘artist’ in the modern sense of the term. In 1988 the title called National Diploma offered by this institute for its five year courses, gave training in Painting, Sculpture and Applied Art. In 2000, the status of this institute was raised as it got affiliated with the University of Calicut and started offering four year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in three specialisations: Painting, Sculpture and Applied Arts. In the year 2019, a new course in Art History and Visual Studies has also started.

It was founded on August 16, 1854 at Garanhata, Chitpur, "with the purpose of establishing an institution for teaching the youth of all classes, industrial art based on scientific methods." as the School of Industrial Art. The Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University (TNJMFAU) is a government music and fine arts university situated in Adyar in the southern part of the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is about 14 km (8.7 mi) from the Chennai International Airport and about 10 km (6.2 mi) from the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station. It is one of the premier music and fine arts universities named after the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa.

It was founded by Rabindranath Tagore who called it Visva-Bharati, which means the communion of the world with India. Until independence it was a college. Soon after independence, the institution was given the status of a central university in 1951 by an act of the Parliament.
