WMusic engraving is the art of drawing music notation at high quality for the purpose of mechanical reproduction. The term music copying is almost equivalent—though music engraving implies a higher degree of skill and quality, usually for publication. The name of the process originates in plate engraving, a widely used technique dating from the late sixteenth century. The term engraving is now used to refer to any high-quality method of drawing music notation, particularly on a computer or by hand.
WA scorewriter, or music notation program is software for creating, editing and printing sheet music. A scorewriter is to music notation what a word processor is to text, in that they typically provide flexible editing and automatic layout, and produce high-quality printed results.

WMusiCAD is a scorewriter program originally designed for folk music featuring irregular meter and automatically generated accompaniment voices (bass/chords) from chord symbols and specified time signature. Created lead sheets are audibly verifiable. One of its design goals was to be as predictable as possible: 'what-you-write-is-what-you'll-hear'. The resulting music engraving is the result of the notes used and an applied set of rules that determine how notes should be drawn. After changing the layout parameters or after transpose the (new) rules are applied, perhaps changing page layout completely.

WOverture is a music notation (scorewriter) program for Windows and Macintosh platforms, published and developed by Sonic Scores. Visually, the Overture scoring interface resembles Encore, an earlier notation program, on which the same author had previously worked. While Overture is primarily a scorewriter program, its graphic interface also has the ability to allow editing the score's MIDI audio playback data in the manner of sequencer and digital audio workstation (DAW) software. Additionally, it has the ability to play film video footage synchronized to the score playback, and to insert precise time markers into the score.

Created for use on Microsoft Windows and macOS laptops or desktops, Progression focuses on composition for guitar, but can also be used to compose for keyboards, bass, and drums. WSibelius is a scorewriter program developed and released by Sibelius Software Limited. It is the world's largest selling music notation program. Beyond creating, editing and printing music scores, Sibelius can also play the music back using sampled or synthesised sounds. It produces printed scores, and can also publish them via the Internet for others to access. Less advanced versions of Sibelius at lower prices have been released, as have various add-ons for the software.
WTuxGuitar is a free and open-source tablature editor, which includes features such as tablature editing, score editing, and import and export of Guitar Pro gp3, gp4, and gp5 files. In addition, TuxGuitar's tablature and staff interfaces function as basic MIDI editors.
