It was announced on February 11, 2014, that Sony Pictures Worldwide and Lucent Pictures Entertainment would making a new CG-animated film.

Casper Van Dien reprises his role as Johnny Rico from the first and third films and Dina Meyer reprises her role as Dizzy Flores from the first film.

It is part of the Ultraman franchise and a manga sequel of the 1966 television series. The series has been collected in 17 tankōbon volumes as of June 2021.
